From the mechanic at Ford:
THEY GOT THE BRAKE CALIPERS AND ROTORS PUT ON AND FOUND THAT THE HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT HAS FAILED AND IT HAS TO BE REPLACED. THE COST OF THE HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT IS: LABOR $ 510.00 PART $ 912.00 TAX $99.54 TOTAL $1'521.54 PLUS THE $2375.90 FOR A GRAND TOTAL OF $ 3'897.44
From my personal mechanic: Researching the advice we gave you on the potential recall for the 2018 Ford Transit van, I found recall #16C10 did not include the 2018. However if you are experiencing issues with the Hydraulic control unit as we suspected I would recommend contacting Ford directly.
When we inspected the van for the concern of the brakes activating without applying the brake pedal, we found the right rear brake caliper was intermittently sticking. Our experience is that brake calipers will not typically intermittently stick, that's why we researched for possible causes and found the recall. We wanted to make sure any issue with the Hydraulic control unit was not causing the issue prior to replacing calipers. If your service adviser has any questions, please have him call me directly. Thank you
