Metal glitter in oil @ 48k miles / well maintained engine.
I have a well maintained 2018 Ford Transit 250 that only had 48,500 miles and I usually have a quick oil change or the Ford Dealership change my oil but this time I decided to do it myself. As I drained the oil I noticed little tiny pieces of glitter in my oil. This obviously isn't a good sign.
I took it back to the dealership and spoke to them about the warranty of 5 yr 60k miles. I bought it in 2019 brand new so it still has 1500 miles of warranty left. The service advisor told me that Ford would not do anything unless my vehicle was making a considerable noise, loss of power or something significant. I told the guy that metal glitter in my oil is not normal and it's next steps based off of what I've read is engine failure (piston and rings, bearing goes out.)
Engine sounds fine, runs good and feels like it's finally broke in. I'm not hard on it and do frequent oil changes for the most part. I might of stretched an oil change to 7k miles instead of 5k but it was never low on oil.
I find this to be very concerning so I'm changing my oil next week to give the Ford Service Center a sample and cutting open the oil filter to have them analyze it. Hopefully, they stand behind their product.
Update from Nov 17, 2023: 11/16/2023 Update: Went to the local Ford Dealership in Olathe, KS. Spoke to a Service Advisor regarding my issue with glitter in my oil. He took me over to the computer and the Ford Advisor page and we researched the issue. This is "common" and not to be concerned with accordingly with Ford Service. This is a common normal wear and tear issue based off the description and pictures that were provided. I looked at pics that were considered acceptable and not acceptable. It absolutely blew my mind to what they considered acceptable - It made my issue look minor or irrelevant. Both the Service Advisor and I were in shock after seeing the pics. I've owned Chevy, Dodge, Lexus, Toyota, Chrysler, Kia and now Ford and this is the first time I have experienced this issue with all the makes.
