Obtained the vehicle through inheritance; got the car with common keys instead of chipped keys. Came to the conclusion the SecuriLock/PATS system has either malfunctioned or has been tampered with.
The Ford dealer local to me managed to ruin the Remote Entry system in the last Explorer I owned and failed to own up to it; odds are they'll charge me out the nose just to see what's even wrong with PATS in this Bird without so much as fixing it. (No joke, I walked in with 1 factory key and working FOB; 4 hours later left with 2 working keys and 0 working FOBs)
The reason this is significant is that this affects the vehicle's theft deterrent system; Any key that is cut to the doors will fit the ignition and the car will start, run, and drive normally. This was discovered after the vehicle alarm was armed and subsequently triggered after unlocking and entering the car. The alarm cannot be silenced in this situation without unhooking the battery, or allowing the factory alarm system to sound for the complete duration of 2 minutes, 45 seconds.
Have yet to pony up the needed cash to ask Ford what the issue is; having new keys and FOBs made will cost well over $300, not including fixing what's wrong with PATS.
