Was replacing high-mounted stop lamp bulbs and noticed that the plastic casing in which the bulb is placed had melted. Plastic was "bubbling" due to heat.
The brake lamp mounted in the rear view window was not designed to tolerate the heat from the bulbs, the heat from the bulbs causes the top of the housing to overheat and melt, the meltings cause the light bulbs and sockets to overheat, burn and melt.
Top mounted brake light bulbs keep burning out. Would melt housing each time. Housing was made out of plastic and easily burned. Been in contacted with dealer about housing. Have not taken vehicle to dealer as of yet.
Consumer experiencing problem with brake/tail lights housing and third brake lightoverheated/melted due to heats from bulb. Dealer replaced plastic housing on three occasions, and problem still may occur. Dealer informed consumer this would be the last time for replacement/repair without cost to consumer. Manufacturer notified. In addition, on third occasion, the ground cable itself wa stested and found defective due T ahigh resistance in the cable.
