So far Ive replaced the EGR-Valve, Throttle position sensor, Mass Air sensor, A new exhaust system, Plugs, Wires, Distributer, Rotor button, K/N Air Filter, nothing has helped. When you first start the car, it will jump up to 2000rpm, then the check engine light will start flashing, A bunch of times, then the car will die, and when you start, it backs up, it wont do it again, until you shut it off, and restart it, it's driving me nuts. Ok - One day i was driving home from work. i work about 40 miles from where I live so almost all the miles i put on my car are highway miles. i take good care of it and make sure all the fluids are filled. Well as i was going along i noticed the lights were much dimmer then they should have been, and when i tried the brights there was a noticible change in the engine sound. like it had to try harder. then i saw i was slowing down despite cruise control. then a little while later the engine light came on and i pulled over. and shut it off. when I tried to turn it back on it was almost as if the battery was dead as it would sound very slow, like it was trying to turn over, but with very little power. i would have thought this just meant a bad alternator or battery except for the bit of smoke coming out of the hood. smelled of oil, but i could find no leak. I noticed the oil was very low, so the next day when i got back to it i put about 4 quarts of oil in and it started fine and i drove off. Thinking thats all it needed and all was good. then the next day i managed to get all the way to work and about 2 miles from town, out of the blue it all happened again, once again i put more oil in (i happend to have a case in the trunk) and a little while later i drove off. managed to get about 40 ft from my house when it did it again. I checked all the fluids, and everything i could think of. and it all seems ok - it will start, and idle fine, but if i rev it a little while it starts skipping and smokeing then turns off later. i still have not got it fixed. this sucks
