Rear wheel bearing started making noise around 65,000 miles. I found out on the Ford owners group forum that wheel bearing failures are a very common problem and some at low miles. Lucky for me I had an extended warranty. It seems the supplier of wheel bearing to Ford for the Taurus are of poor quality and should be replaced at no charge if they fail before 100,000 miles.

I should be entering these as 3 different complaints. I have owned this car for the last 2.5 years and have had to take it in to have 3 of the 4 wheel bearings replaced. They start humming very loudly when they are failing. This process is slow and the noise basically gets slowly louder every day. All 3 of these have been replaced under warranty, but I will soon be out of warranty and am anticipating the 4th to go, then the 1st one replaced to begin this process all over again. Guess I should be planning on changing approximately 1 wheel bearing per year. Poor design? or poor quality of parts?
