Lost power going down the road, and I first thought it was either transmission issues or oil level. Added 2 quarts of oil, and tranny fluid was fine. Then it happened again days later with p2111 code. Replaced throttle body using a flat head and 8mm socket. You have to reset by putting the car on “ON” position; take 10 seconds to press the accelerator all the way down, hold, then release slowly taking another 10 seconds.

Taurus Police Interceptor 3.5L V6 Dohc

  • Automatic transmission
  • 170,000 miles

This issue started happening several months ago. I lost acceleration for 15 or so minutes several times in a week. The electronic throttle body was replaced and I did not experience it again until two months later, and now for the past month. One day I lost acceleration four times in a mile.

It was towed to Ford once, but like everyone else, Ford cannot recreate the issue. With no solution I began looking for a new vehicle. The engine/computer corrects itself fairly quickly, so the Check Engine light will go away. However, recently I was open to stop by a parts shop to run for codes while the Check Engine light was on and it resulted in P2111/P2112.

These codes say the throttle body gets stuck open, shutting down the engine before any damage can occur. The problem isn't mechanical; it's most likely electrical. Currently, there are not enough brands for new throttle bodies and I don't want to risk injury to myself or passengers, and I'm not going to be the guy to keep throwing money at it until it's fixed.

Good luck!

Taurus Limited 3.6L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 71,125 miles

I was lucky that this happened fairly close to work and with no one behind me. My car completely stalled with no warning. Luckily for me (I don't know if luck is the word I would use because it has already cost me $600) my wife had a similar problem with her 2013 Ford Flex. We had her throttle body replaced at the dealer. It was then that I did some research on the issue and found this site. I had no idea that I would be experiencing the same issue.

problem #2

Taurus Limited V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 59,000 miles

This throttle control completely disappears. The issue typically happens when you have backed off the gas. The car shakes and drops to below idle RPM levels. There is no throttle response and you can only creek at the very low idle speed. after creeping to the side of the road you can shut it all down and restart the car, everything is normal the onboard computer has not record of the event. It has happened 5 times in the past month and is extremely dangerous because you cannot get out of the way of on coming traffic if it happens in an intersection (Like it did to me).

Electronic throttle body loses its mind and the car goes into a sputtering idle. This is very DANGEROUS on the highway. I almost caused an accident today. This ETB problem is KNOWN and should be covered with an extended warranty. It only started happening AFTER the 36000 mile warranty was up.
