This is the 2nd post.
Basically, the A/C does not operate until after about 5 min when >85F outside. But I learned a few things over the last year on how to prove it.
#1 - it is not a time based problem like I thought. Meaning, I originally thought it started working after about 5 min, but I work near a freeway, so it is OAT temp based.
Basically, I leave the house in the AM and it is say 65F. I drive to work and park. After 8+ hours, I come out and it is now >85F. The car has soaked all day and it is hot.
Start the car up and the A/C is NOT on but the blower is on High (Auto control) blowing nice HOT air on me - NICE.
I drive away. But I found the clue - the Outside Air Temp (OAT) is showing 65F - the temp it was when I parked this morning. So no wonder the A/C isn't on, it still thinks it is 65F outside.
So I drive away. About 5 min later the A/C starts to come on. After about 7 min, the A/C is on full and nice and cold.
You see, I thought it was time based. But it is not. It is an OAT based problem. These yahoos at Ford don't have the OAT updating at key on to the real OAT after a > 2 hour soak. So when I key on, it thinks it is still 65F. Since I work near a freeway, and I get on it to > 60MPH is < 5 min, the OAT starts to update once it gets to speed and the OAT sensor sees air flow. You can see the OAT updating about once per second and climbing from 65F to 85F.
So I go back to the Ford dealer. Tell them what I discovered. Of course these guys don't know how it should work and just tell me it was designed this way, so it meets spec. and they can't fix it.
I tell them to look and see if a new SW update is available as this is clearly a SW issue. They tell me NO.
What I also discovered is if I didn't live near a freeway and didn't get the OAT to update do to VEH_SPD, I bet it would never update and never kick on the A/C.
God help the poor souls that don't get on the freeway right way - must be a miserable drive home with hot Air Blowing.
