Ford Taurus 2008 Lt rear strut spring broken. My tire kept saying low pressure on that side but we just kept filling it as it was only occurring about every 6 weeks. Then all of a sudden we began to hear what sounded like a bowling bowl rolling around in the trunk.
I took it in for an oil change and had him check it only to find out it was the strut. Told by mechanic that this occurred back on the 2001-2002 models. They developed some sort of device to cover them to avoid breakage and prevent possible damage to tires. They could break and go into the tire causing it to blow.
He said he thought Ford did away with this faulty spring after that on the new models. Apparently they are still using the same type and make of coil spring without a cover shield. He called another mechanic to verify this and was told he had not seen a brake like this since 2002. He thought as well that Ford had fixed the problem by using a different coil. Apparently not.
He doesn't have a spring stretcher so off to the Ford dealer I go tomorrow to probably pay $1,000.00 with all their markups for something Ford should have fixed a long time ago. Not only are they going to fix the strut to make their money they are probably going to say I need the sway bar- the whole set up plus a new tire. You can't get one tire so that will be two.
What a rip off. I support FORD in all they do and buy their cars. I have 5 right now. But I am totally disappointed that they would continue to use faulty materials.
