moisture in headlight moisture in headlight moisture in headlight

2008 Ford Taurus SEL FWD 3.5 V6 6pd auto Titanium Green Metallic

Driver side headlight letting moisture in.

Update from Nov 18, 2014: Dealers in my area do not fix the headlight. They say they just replace the unit itself.
$516!!! for the headlight assembly&lens that houses the bulbs.

Don't want to take a chance on a Junkyard one as well in case it's leaking, Aftermarket ones are north of $300.

I think the solution is take it out and try and find the leak. However one dealer told me you can't seal them,

I also found out apparently you have to drop the bumper to get the headlight assembly out. What genius!

Update from Dec 15, 2014: Took the headlight into a Shop Called Leak Pro.

One side of the front bumper had to be dropped to get it out....and at that it was still a pain because they didn't wan to remove the grill as it has plastic tabs and breaking them wouldn't be good.

Labour/Labor Intensive to get the headlight out.

They should go back to Glass lenses or make it easier to remove the headlight assembly or add a lot more sealant from the factory so this doesn't happen. I am well north of $100 poorer now....and i have no guarantee the moisture won't come back. This seemed a better option than buying a new $500 headlight assembly and then still having to pay the labour/labor to install it.

The Engineers need to stop this absolute idiocy.

Update from Dec 17, 2014: So the very next day after i took it to Leak Pro (less than a full day) there is moisture inside. The headlight assembly was removed, sealed all the way around the outside with an automotive sealer & the back boot / dust covers taken off and sealed inside and put back on. Then everything was put back in place. My car didn't even leave the garage & the next day was full of moisture. So $100+ down the drain. I am being told the solution is now drill holes in the bottom. And as my car is parked in high moisture area (heated garage) that is not going to be any good. And i take it to a car wash that sprays under neath....that won't be good if there is a hole drilled in it.

So now i have to struggle and hope i can take it out myself and see if i can seal it somehow. or just end up buying a new $500 assembly from Ford. Because for all the struggle or cost to have someone pull it out....why take a chance a junk yard one that's probably oxidized and as old.

This cheap manufacturing needs to stop. Right before the Holidays I just don't need this.
