Was out Chrismas shopping and during the day I started noticing a rattling sound that got progressively worse. I stopped at an AutoZone and asked a tech if he could come listen to it. He came out heard the engine and he thought a rod or cylinder might be damaged. I took it to my mechanic Monday morning they listen and test drive it. They tell the timing chain appears to be malfunctioning and coming lose. They say I have three options: 1st option keep driving it but the chain will probably come lose and shred everything. 2nd option they could open the engine up and repair the chain assembly but it might not hold and the repairs would be expensive due to labor. As much as a replacing the engine. 3rd option Replace the engine. I chose the third option (replace engine) $3363. It sucked that is right around Christmas, and it sucked that it was 700 miles just past the expiration of my extended warranty. This was my fourth American car in 20 years and the most expensive repair.

My car overheated with no warning resulting in a blown engine, costing me thousands of dollars to repair as I

ended up replacing the engine based on the amount of oil that was found in my crankcase. This was due to a water pump failure which I found out has been a known problem to Ford. Come to find out, the average repair cost to replace the water pump is over $2000 because it is located internally - you have to pull the engine just to replace the pump! Incredible...

kept it very well maintained and never drove it hard always changed the oil on time.. but i drove it on the highway alot but always going the speed limit and staying on the far right lane because of people that think the Interstate is a race track!! anyway i drove on the highway to pick a friend up, and came home and as soon as i slowed down to get to my drive way, i began applying the brake and the engine surged uncontrollably and the lights in the car start flashing off and on and had no power to the brakes or steering, so i shut it off and pushed it into my drive way. checked the oil and saw engine coolant on the dip stick but it still ran but ran rough and weak with no power .. so i had it towed to a shop and later the next day i got a phone call saying that he tried putting engine coolant in but it kept going in the engine somewhere and he said that it would be cheaper to buy a new motor then to have them tare it apart to find out whats wrong with it........ it only had 95500 miles on the motor when i bought it a year ago.. now i have no way to work and will lose my job because of this :-(
