I purchased this vehicle for my son's 19th birthday, it was sold to me for $4,400 in late April 2014. As a single mother, & a veteran this was a large purchase for me and I spent days and hours researching the best car for safety, comfort (my son is 6'2"), reliability, easy and inexpensive maintenance, and a vehicle that would serve him for many years & miles if he chose to keep & not have a car pmt every month.
I came up with the cash for this car by re-financing my VA loan on my home. As I said, it was a very big deal to be able to do this for my son. I picked the 2007 Ford Taurus as it is a newer model with (going by hundreds of reviews) the ability to easily go 2-300,000 miles. Fair gas mileage. A comfortable size for my son, and many safety features, the most obvious that it's not a "tiny" car, no offense to "tiny" cars I've owned my share, but this is for my teenage son.
About one month & very few miles, a leak was noticed on the driveway. I had my son take it to my trusted mechanic for a "look-see" and he came back with an estimate for $5220.88. New transmission and a/c.
I was & am crushed. the repairs this car needs cost more than I paid for the vehicle, how can that be? My son is back to either leaving 2hrs prior to his scheduled work shift so he can catch the bus, & trying to catch a ride home as the busses don't run after the restaurant closes. I feel horrible for him. I have the car sitting outside of my house praying that there will be a recall or class action suit on these Ford Taurus cars.
