I was traveling in a 45mph zone when the car began to accelerate to 55mph. I was able to brake and slow the car until I can pull it off the road and park it. I put the car into neutral and the engine revs to over 3000 rpm at which point I turned off the engine. I started the car again and again 3000 rpm. I started the car once again after checking that the gas pedal was not sticking. Again it revved to 3000rpms, so I did the only thing I could think of, I gassed the engine and the idle returned to normal. the car worked fine after that until I got on the freeway to come home and the cruise control would not engage.

Random excessive acceleration is a new development in my occasionally temperamental car, and it led to a strange mixture of dismay, nervousness, and amusement. I just thank God it didn't spike to 90 mph and get me and my brother in a fiery car wreck! None of my problems have been fixed because I have no idea what to fix and don't have hundreds of dollars to pi$$ away on guesswork.

One of my coworkers has the identical make and model of car that I do, with the same issues. She has replaced two different parts and has been to maybe half a dozen people, with no solution. She says that the Ford dealership wants more than $100 just to run a diagnostic, and we don't have that kind of money. I hope someone can find some definitive answers, and most importantly-- I pray that no one gets hurt by these wacky cars.

I was driving with my 4 year old runnning errands. As I began to go up a significant hill I noticed the car was accelerating to dangerous speeds. I began to brake and the car barely stopped, once in park the rpm exceeded 4000. My husband's friend looked and discovered the cruise control cable had broke and the throttle was pinned. I really thought it was goin to blow the motor so did he. My husband rigged it with zip tie and went to the auto store. Disturbingly no one (in several stores) could really help other than to say to call manufacturer or look in junk yard and fix yourself. Is there a recall?

hello i'm sorry to hear that your having this problem. But you are not alone with this i have a 2006 ford taruse that has been doing the same thing i took it to the dealer and the dealer told me that they didn't know what the problem was they have never heard of that happening.it was a first to them i planning on tring to get this to be a recall because i feel that we are going to end up hurting someone or are self it is very scary thing to deal with. so far they have put a new spring in, clean the trottle and unconnected my cruise control maybe we can all work together to get ths fix.

For the last month, I have been dealing with this problem. When I am driving, my car begins to accelerate by itself, and I have a very hard time braking to get it to stop. The rpm's are anywhere between 4-5000 when I am driving, which is not normal. When my car is in idle, the rpms go over 5000 and it sounds like it's going to blow up! Then there are times when I am increasing speed, and my car is stuck in gear, which can get dangerous on the interstate, if you can only go 30-40 miles an hour! I took it to the Ford dealer, the said the cruise control was stuck, and removed the spring. So now I not only do not have cruise control, but my car is still doing the same thing. I take it in next week, since I purchased an extended warranty, but I have a feeling I am going to get screwed. To me, it seems like a transmission problem, not a cruise control problem. This is ridiculous! I have read other complaints on this particular model, and have seen at least 3 other with the same problem. I think that's more than a coincidence, it's a major Ford problem.
