- Here's How To Fix Unprepared For Sudden Acceleration Of Gas Petal - Hi Everyone! I FOUND out what the problem was and I then fixed it for the cost of the wire tie on my loaf of bread and the attached video, here I had taken it to mechanics who wanted an arm and a leg. I did this 7 mos ago and it is STILL working, I will of course have to get it fixed, but knowing what needs to be fixed makes me less likely to get taken advantage of.... and yeah I am a gal and did this in less than 15 minutes, by myself! Go chick, go chick go chick, I so felt like a female McGyver! Now, who needs me to make a nuke out of a rubber band, a piece of gum, a purple crayon and some of my old fish bowl water, eh?!

I was traveling in a 45mph zone when the car began to accelerate to 55mph. I was able to brake and slow the car until I can pull it off the road and park it. I put the car into neutral and the engine revs to over 3000 rpm at which point I turned off the engine. I started the car again and again 3000 rpm. I started the car once again after checking that the gas pedal was not sticking. Again it revved to 3000rpms, so I did the only thing I could think of, I gassed the engine and the idle returned to normal. the car worked fine after that until I got on the freeway to come home and the cruise control would not engage.
