The 1999-2003 Ford Taurus has a huge problem with coil springs breaking, which can puncture or even shred tires while driving.
The US government spent THREE YEARS (2008-2011) investigating the 2002-2003 Taurus coil springs. Although Taurus/Sable from earlier years were recalled, ultimately the NHTSA did not force a recall. They determined that because there had been no deaths & very few bad crashes & injuries, the broken coil springs defect was no big deal & not a safety defect. Tell that to all the owners who had close calls...

The contact owns a 2002 Ford Taurus. The contact stated that the rear passenger doors leatherette panel had fractured and was hanging from the doors. The vehicle was inspected by a dealer who informed the contact that she needed to bring the vehicle back when the weather was cooler. When she took the vehicle back to the dealer she was advised that they don't do that type of repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 43,049.
While the car was running I got out of the car to retrieve something from my house. Shut the door and the doors automaticaly locked. Triple a could not unlock due to the security system.
