Just quit working. The car was not equipped with a warning bell, etc. to let you know you had left the lights on when the vehicle is off and the door opens so you end up running the battery down because the lights were left on and you have no way of knowing that unless you exit and walk around the car and SEE the lights on which is really hard in bright daylight conditions.
