This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
1. wipers did not return to "parked" position at bottom of windshield due to obstruction (freezing precipitation). 2. intermittent wiper function ceased immediately, 2 weeks later wiper park function failed, on 3/16/07 the wipers failed while in use on I40. My wife, 2 daughters and I had to park the car on the side of I40 for almost 3 hours beginning during rush hour traffic because I could not see through the torrential rains with no windshield wipers. 3. at this point nothing has been done to correct the failures. Ford Motor Corp. Has stated there is a recall on the windshield wiper system and that although my car falls in the year of the recall, is the correct make and model and also exhibited the exact symptoms listed under the recall, they will not repair the problem.
NHTSA campaign id # 01V258000 - windshield wiper/washer motor...I have a 2000 Ford Taurus, my windshield wiper motor has stopped working. I remembered that there was a recall on it. When I called the Ford customer service department (and I use that term very loosely), I was told that a Ford dealership has already repaired the recall (don reid Ford). When I explained that the part was never, ever repaired by them...the customer service rep. & her supervisor, said that there was nothing that they could do, because the "records" showed it was repaired in October 2001. My car has never been taken in for this repair to be done. I asked the unhelpful customer service rep (and her supervisor) what my options were, and I was told that I was welcome to take it to any Ford dealer to have the repair done, at my expense...even though the recall has never been repaired. I know that the dealers get paid money when they do recall work...and I also know that there are a lot of dishonest people out there that will do anything to earn a dollar. Now having said that...what is a person to do, that has an unrepaired recall problem, and it has been labeled as repaired" all of the symptoms that I am experiencing right now, are the exact same ones listed in the recall notice. Can someone please lead me in the right direction"
Windshield wiper hoses defective on Ford 2000 Taurus thin platic hoses cracks and brittle to touch causing washer to leak and obstucting drivers ability to see clearly in winter road salted conditions. I have two Taurus and both hoses have failed after 4 years. Also oil pan gasket have slipped on both vehicles causing oil leaks which if not caught can severly leak oil from engine causing motor to cease.
While driving 60 mph windshield wiper motor caught on fire. Consumer managed to pull over and put out the fire. Had the vehicle towed. Dealership repaired the problem.
The windshield wipers came on and off intermittently. Consumer drove vehicle to the dealer for inspection. Dealer determined that the windshield wiper motor needed to be replaced.
While driving in inclement weather windshield wipers came on and off intermittently. Consumer drove vehicle to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic determined that the windshield wiper motor needed to be replaced.
When the windshield wipers are turned on the only way to turn them off is by turning the car off. Also the intermediete part of the wipers doesn't work since all this started. This has been going on for a couple of months now. I have listed the last day it happened below.
Malfunctioning of windshield wiper motor. This problem eventually shorted out the GEM module. The security system shorted out another computer processor in the vehicle and there was an incident where the vehicle displayed no start/no crank. The consumer believed his vehicle was subject to recall 01V258000.
The consumer attempted to obtain inspection and replacement of the recalled (01V258) defective wiper motor gear case. The dealer indicated that their computer system did not show a recall although he had a letter from a dealer stating said recall was in effect. Two dealers declined to inspect and replace the wiper motor gear case cover, the consumer contacted the manufacturer and was told that they cannot assist him. Nlm
Windshield wipers willnot operate at all. Airbag light appears on the dashboard intermittently. Also, windows will go up and down without prior warning.
While driving vehicle on a rainy day windshield wipers started malfunctioning. Took vehicle to dealer. Also, received recall 01V258000/ manufacturer's recall 01S24 concerning windshield wiper motor. Dealer stated no repairs were needed.
Since may of 2000 there was a problem with the starter system jamming. Consequences of down systems...such as windshield wipers, ABS, traction control, turn signals, A/C and blower. One incident led to complete shut down of car...dead would not start. Dealer replaced two starters and then one "starter switch'. that failed as well and dealer tried to repair on 9/25/2000 and confessed they could not and that they had conferred with Ford before last two repairs and they said Ford knew of this problem and didn't expect a fix till 4th qtr.. they told me there is no safety issue here and I question that because my car whent into complete shut down of all systems and dealer couldn't even start it.
