This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
My 2000 Ford Taurus SE, with 31,900 miles on it, has recently developed a six (6) inch long split in the sheet metal skin inside the right front door jam on the door piller. The split in the sheet metal is wide enough to see the interior of the door piller. This defect will be reported to my Ford dealership on January 6,2003. The defect was first discovered on January 4, 2003. I would consider this defect extremely serious since the door pillar is an important part of the vehicle's safety mechanism. Photographs have been taken of the defect and can be mailed to your office upon request.
