This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
Tranmission: Grinding noise heard at start-up. Vehicle lurched when placed in reverse. When stopped at intersection, vehicle lurched forward and would not move in drive. Vehicle would operate when placed in neutral. When vehicle was placed in park, it would no longer operate in any gear. Speedometer: Speedometer bounces, makes noise and the needle pegs at 85 mph when car hits bump in road or goes above 55 mph. Speedometer has been replaced once previously.
We have had multiple, intermittent problems with the transmission not engaging from a stopped position when trying to accellerate. It has actually gotten to the point now that at times it disengages even while moving slightly. It is a major safety problem in that it sometimes rolls out into the intersection, but does not engage, putting us directly into oncoming traffic. My sons use this car for school, and this is a very dangerous situation. This happened twice to the original owner prior to our purchase, and has happened several times since we have owned the car. Therefore, the date of failure is not precise. The problem is getting worse and is happening much more frequently. It needs to be resolved quickly.
Would be pulling into traffic & would have no gears. Could not shift vehicle. Called dealer & told vehicle had cracked pistons & was asked to bring in vehicle. This cause vehicle not to shift properly.
When driving at first no problem. Stopped at a stop sign and the car rolled backwards, then kicked in hard and went forward. Had intermittent transmission problem. Dealer contacted, and inspected vehicle. Could not find anything wrong.
This is an intermittent problem that occurs when the vehicle is shifting into second gear, it feels like the transmission is slipping and makes a clunking noise. Took to the dealer, and they said the couldn't fix the problem.
Design of the engine is poor. Underneath the engine something pulls sand into the engine, and causes problems with the engine/transmission shakes when driving up to 75 mph. The dealer cannot duplicate the problem.
While the vehicle was in park and in the off position. The car rolled forward. As if the vehicle were in neutral. Car rolled about 3 feet. Dealer suggested to consumer to always use parking brake and to apply it before putting vehicle into park.
