After filling the vehicle with fuel, vehicle was parked, consumer noticed that the fuel spilled all over the driveway. Took vehicle to the dealer, who discovered that fuel tank had a very big crack in it. There are recalls on the fuel tank, recall 97V144000 and 97V145000 were issued on this problem.
The methanol gas caused the top of the gas tank to deteriorate and damage the gaskets. Also the gas gauage did not register the correct levels of fuel. Cause unknown.
While parked vehicle started idling the then it died. The gas gauge was registering empty.owner attempted to put gas in the tank, vehicle did not register. Owner lowered the gass tank and realized that the sending unit's components were burned and melted, and the wires had burned through the vehicle. The dealer and manufacturer has been notified.
