This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
Speedometer does not accurately read vehicle speed. At times, speedometer will read in excess of 85 mph when vehicle is actually going much less than that. Dealer has admitted that many speedometers on vehicles of this year and model have the same problem. I have replaced mine twice (once under warranty and once out of pocket). The cost exceeds $350 for replacement. Inaccurate speed indication is a threat to public safety and Ford should address this issue.
The defective head of the speedometer broke in these 3 vehicle between 50- 60,000 miles. 2nd vehicle VIN #[xxx], 3rd vehicle VIN # [xxx]. cause unknown. Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
Intermittently while driving the speedometer jumps up and down, and it causes the cruise control to be inoperable. Dealer and manufacter have been notified.
The vehicle experienced 3 failures at 30,000 miles. Each time the speedometer misread the vehicle's speed. Dealer replaced the speedometer sensors and cables. Dealer cannot determine problem.
When driving at speeds of 60 mph and higher the speedometer needle bounces around. The driver cannot tell how fast the vehicle is going. The dealer has been notified.
Speedometer indicator on dashboard jumps when vehicle passes over a bump in roadway orn roadway surface changes, I.e. from black-top pavement to concrete, such as a bridge surface. When the cruise control is on it jumps and the vehicle speed does not increase, but operator has no idea as to what speed vehicle is actually traveling as indicator will oscilate as much as 20 to 25 mph above set speed.
Vehicle is used for driver education course, when driven, the speedometer needle jumps form 45 to 85, giving different readings. Consumer has contacted the dealer, dealer replaced parts. Speedometer is fluctuating again, dealer will not replace unless consumer pays repair costs.
I researched previous complaints on speedometers reading incorrect or erradicly. This speedometer has been replaced twice and is quite costly (approx $350-400). There were 8 other compalaints in regards to this particular problem! that is quite a few complaints of the same problem. I would appreciate you looking in to this and E-mailing me with a response when you get a chance. I apologize for not having the VIN number handy. Thank you.
