On August 12, 2024 my wife and I drove to Isola, MS. Until I stopped at a light crossing US 82 in Indianola, MS, all was routine. We had noticed a few times that our transmission shift was sometimes rough, but not bad. When the light turned green I proceeded south on US 49W and when I stepped on the gas the Ford Ranger (I loved it, this is my 4th one) quickly accelerated and jumped to 70 mph. Braking, it first didn't want to slow down, but then did. THEN it lost power, with big trucks behind and all around me. Then it returned to normal, and was nomal for another 15 miles.
Departing for my return from Isola, MS. twice it didn't want to engage and I had no power, then it was fine. I stopped for lunch, and after lunch, the same happened (no power). I wondered if the problem was fuel pump, fuel filter, or transmission. As I drove home another 65 miles, I called my dealer's service department and spoke to "Chad". I told him I'd bring it in the next day. Upon arrival, the truck wouldn't go in reverse, so I sent it on a wrecker so as not to do any damage. I was told it needed a new transmission, that the transmission fluid had burned up. I reminded Chad that I had the same truck in his service department July 11-17 for 1) body work resulting from being hit by deer, 2) regular service, check all fluids, 3) problems with dashboard lights, horn, and 4) a new air conditioner. When called to pick it up, I paid and the truck was brought out. I discovered they had "forgotten" to do number 1, body repair, which was covered by insurance, and 2, regular service. This complaint is about the transmission. The other problems were just normal. Now I am learning that other people are having similar transmission problems with 10R80 transmissions. I am told there are no recalls, but perhaps some lawsuits.
