My Ranger has a substantial vibration felt in the steering wheel just below, at, and above 2000RPM. It happens in all gears AND when sitting still. It has been looked at by two different Ford dealers. The first dealer loosened the exhaust system and retorqued the motor mounts then retorqued the exhaust system. It didn't help. Dealer #2 performed a TSB (09-18-05) which involved putting weights on the exhaust system. This was supposed to dampen or eliminate the vibration. It did not. Three different mechanic and two different service managers confirm that there is a vibration, but Ford insists that MY vehicle performs as engineered. The second dealer had a brand new 2010 Ranger on the lot, which had an automatic tranny (mine is a 5 speed manual). The new vehicle has the exact vibration at the exact RPM range. Because of that, Ford says that there is nothing they will do to eliminate the vibration from my truck. I've had friends drive my truck and asked them to see if they felt a vibration. No other coaching. They all felt the vibration at the exact same RPM range. This problem is most annoying because it causes my hands to go to sleep during a long trip. After a 100 mile trip, when I exit the vehicle, I feel like I'm still vibrating. It is very uncomfortable. And because my truck is less than a year old.....it's going to be a very annoying vehicle to own. It's been mentioned that the flywheel could be the problem. The flywheel in my vehicle is much thicker and heaver than the flywheel in the automatic tranny. Not to say that both don't have the same problem, but it is unlikely. The clutch has been eliminated or tested and appears to be O.K. Because the problem is there with the truck sitting still, many other things are eliminated. I've had other people tell me that the Ford 2.3"-4 has been a good engine for quite awhile, but that it does vibrate!! I sure wish I would have know that before I bought it!! My recommendation, MAKE SURE EVERYTHING IS PERFECT BEFORE YOU BUY A FORD 2.3L-4. Any problems are NOT going to go away and Ford will not stand behind it. Thanks for listening!
