The wheel bearings needed to be replaced after 13 or 14 months. This was the first of a very long list of problems that this truck caused me luckily it was coverd under warranty this time. This is the second ranger that I`ve purchased the first was a 96 and it was great truck this 05 has been garbage.

I had the wheel bearings replace twice under warranty in the first 3 years and then had to replace them 2 more times after the warranty had ran out in the next three years. So the wheel bearings last on average 1.5 years.

Ranger FX 4x4 V6

  • Manual transmission

Ford told me the hub needed replacement, and since the warranty covered it, I agreed to the repair. 4 months later I break down on the highway with a failed axle from the same wheel. Ford tells me I need to do the brakes, so I agree to the repair. 8 months later I have to take it in to have all the brakes redone. Afterwards I'm hearing a noise & feeling a shudder, so I take it in & ask them to check out the brakes. They tell me the brakes are fine, but the problem is the clutch, and suggest replacement (for $1300). Never had clutch problems with my previous Ranger, but since they are the subject matter experts, I agree to the repair. First day after the repair, I'm hearing the same noise reoccurring. And the shudder I also mentioned? Incredibly worse at high speeds on the highway. Taking it back later this week. Can't wait to hear what they intend to charge me for next.

Don't buy the Ranger...Ford does not care about their customers only their profit margin. They know they have a design flaw and do nothing about it. If we were to do that in the private sector we would get sued to no end!
