The contact owns a 2000 Ford Ranger. The contact received NHTSA recall notice number 07V336000 (vehicle speed control). The notice stated that the parts for the repair would be unavailable until November of 2007. In February of 2007, he smelled something burning under the hood of the vehicle. The purchase date was unknown. The current and failure mileages were 85,000. Updated 01-15-08. The consumer was informed the parts were not available. Updated
I experienced sudden, uncontrollable acceleration while driving at approximately 15 mph on a Suburban street. The accelerator pedal went to the floor and was seemingly disconnected from its linkage. I was able to stop the vehicle by turning off the ignition, thankfully before encountering another vehicle, pedestrian or obstacle. My vehicle is a very well maintained 2000 Ford Ranger XLT with about 68,000 miles. The vehicle was towed to a local garage who repaired it promptly. I reported the incident to my local Ford dealer who basically shrugged his shoulders, seemingly uncaring that there may be a potentially serious safety issue. He gave me a toll-free phone number to call Ford Motor Company, but after several attempts to reach that line, and being put on hold through an automated system for up to 40 minutes at a time, I have become frustrated enough to report this to NHTSA.
While driving there was unwanted acceleration. The consumer states it becomes very violent upon coming to a stop. When the consumer stopped using the auto speed control the surging did not occur until early 2005. There was a banging noise coming from the rear when braking due to the rear speed sensor and the brake pump, it made the vehicle feel as if it were being hit in the back.
When shifting gears vehicle's accelerated without warning. Consumer could be sitting still or moving slowly but when he releases the clutch, he feels he's traveling 90 mph. He will not let his wife or anyone else drive the vehicle because of this defect. Took vehicle to Ford dealer and they worked on it. He test drove the vehicle and nothing happened. He stated this has happened at least six times. He could drive it for hundreds of miles and nothing happens. All of a sudden, the motor is going 90 mph. He would play with the clutch and hold the brake for a mile or two and then it's O.K. there has not been any accidents or injuries.

Engine over revs at various times. When slowing the rpms exceed 2000 rpms and you have too brake with transmission engaged to reduce speed as well as keep from running over something or someone. This type of malfunction occurs at no specific time or speed! if other 2000 Ranger with V/6 engines experience this something drastic may happen!
While in motion and slowly decelerating to come to a complete stop, the vehicle will surge like the accelerator has been pushed in and the truck immediately lurches forward. This acceleration is so strong that applying pressure to the brake does not hold and consumer has to Ram the shift lever into park to stop the vehicle.
Consumer states that vehicle has a cable from accelerator pedal. Consumer states the bracket the cable is attached to broke and now when driving vehicle's acceleration is retarded. Nlm consumer also states that the two bolts that holds the bracket in place faded, causing bad throttle response.ph 09-Dec-2002
While driving transmission would rev, then vehicle would lurch forward. Dealer replaced transmission. 6 weeks later, same thing happened. Transmission was replaced again, transmission lasted less than one hour. Currently, transmission is being replaced for the third time.
On five separate occasions, vehicle sitting at red light w/foot on brake, engine revved from 1,000 to 5,000 rpms causing vehicle to lunge forward into on coming traffic almost causing accident. Reported to Ford dealership twice for service who said they could find nothing wrong. As a law enforcement officer for 25 years, I know what I experienced, and this is going to get someone injured or killed.
The customer states that when going uphill the speed control drops about 5 mph and when going downhill it speeds up about 5 mph, the dealer stated that it is operating as designed. Nlm
Vehicle experiencing sudden acceleration after stopping and applying clutch while driving. Dealer notified, and unwilling to assist without charge. Please feel free to provide any further details on this matter.
While braking and turning, vehicle surges, consumer states that on one occasion the surge was bad enough, if there would have been ice, control of the vehicle could have been lost.
This truck has numerous problems with it including the ones that I have listed. I have owned the truck since June 9th, and it has been in the shop for over 55 consecutive days. Transmission failed twice/ instrument cluster failed, and speed control failed.the dealer and manufactor is laying blame on me for these problems. I do not feel safe driving this truck, the first time the transmission went I was in the middle of a very busy intersection and was almost hit. The second time which was a month after they had it in the shop I was going to important training for the U.S. coast guard, and it failed. The first time they had the truck for 20 days and the second time they have had it for over 35 days now and I still don't have it. There are numerous problems, that they aren't even telling me about. The dealer isn't helping me with this at all. I want to get out of this vehicle since I have only had it since June and they will not help there blaming me for all the problems.
Counting the current Ranger, is has been my fourth. I've owned 94', 96', 98' and 00' Ranger, I've never experienced as many problems with them as I have with the 00' model year. The cruise control still operates like in the 96' and 98' model but the cruise control keys no longer light up, so at night I have no clue what each of the four buttons is supposed to do. I took the vehicle into the dealership and was advised that all the comonents were there light bulbs wires etc....except that a positive feed to the lights on the buttons was not suplied and this was a "new" feature on the 00' model year. I think is an outrage that such a "cool" option which actually has a purpose has been deleted. My other problem with this vehicle is the transfer case, it failed at 500 miles of operation the truck was less then a month old!!!, I was advised by the dealer had I used the 4X4 thing could have been ugly!!!..I hope is just an isolated incident!!!. also I'm having problems with the engine, sometimes when putting the truck in drive or reverse from a complete stop it stalls....it just dies!!!!!...usually I have to crank it a few seconds before it starts, also a few times the idle speed has increased from under 1000rpm's to over 2000rpm's while the truck is in idle and warmed up, what is causing this I do not know.
While attempting to come to a complete stop at a red light, pulled foot off accelerator and stepped on brakes. The engine continued to accelerate at a very high RPM and it was extremely difficult to brake. As soon as the brakes were released the truck sprung forward and continued to gain speed with out me stepping on the accelerator. At home my father adviced me to put it in neutral and the engine continued to run very fast. I hit the accelerator several times before it went to a normal idle. I will take the truck to a Ford dealership today as I feel unsafe driving this vehicle.
While pulling into driveway and depressing the brake pedal, vehicle accelerated at a hight rate of speed. Rpms increased from 1000 RPM to 6000 in a matter of seconds, resulting in a crash. Vehicle was forced into a tree, and hit a car. Consumer has contacted dealer.
