This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
In our 2000 Ford Ranger, the dome light intermittently remains on when the car is off. The light and the "door ajar" indicator will intermittently remain on while the car is being driven, causing potentially hazardous night-driving conditions. This has drained the car's battery, stranding the owner. This has happened over 20 times in the month of December and countless times since this problem began in the month of November. This failure was unprovoked, no indicator of any other problem was given and the driver is at a loss as to how to correct the failure without taking the car to the dealer.
