The contact owns a 1999 Land Rover discovery II. While driving 30 mph he heard a banging noise under the gear shift area. The manufacturer stated that the "U" joint came apart which caused damage to the transmission. As of August 14, 2007, the dealer has not repaired the vehicle. The current mileage was 129,000 and the failure mileage was unavailable.
Transmission went "bang" when I put it into reverse, after that, reverse didn't work. Ammco states the transmission is bad. I've been told for years now by other Ford truck owners that their transmission went out around 40,000 miles, mine died at 60, . even Ford's sales people have asked me about the transmission. There is a history here of Ford transmissions self destroying.
The transmission developed a "slip" four months after veh purchase and was brought in for service on 28 dec00. The vehicle displayed the same malfunction on Oct 15 2003 (3 months after warranty expiration)and was brought in for repair at the dealer at a cost of $1500. During dec2004 (13 months later)the vehicle again displayed the same malfunction and was brought to the dealership where they stated the previous repair warranty had expired the month before.
Vehicle was parked when it jumped out of gear and rolled into a house. The vehicle was locked and in the park gear. Recall#99V204000. (insurance company of behalf of consumer)
Realized I had a transmission problem the first time while driving down interstate 95. The engine started revving very high and in panic I shifted down to neutral and then back into drive to get it back into gear. When I took my truck to get looked at, I ended up getting my transmission rebuilt. The mechanic said I had a defective built transmission. I had no idea that Ford had first started using 5 speed automatic transmissions in 1999, so the mechanic told me. I thought I bought a 4 speed transmission and that was what Ford said they sold me. The same thing happened again two years later in May 9, 2003, and again I had to get my transmission rebuilt. Do I have a legitimate complaint?

To park vehicle emergency brake had to be engaged because the vehicle would not shift all the way into park. If the emergency brake was not used the vehicle would roll.
When shifting into first 3 gears gearshift pushes back first. Then, it goes in gear, and vehicle lurches forward. Consumer has taken vehicle to dealer 5 times. Dealer has replaced yoke and the synchronizer. However, this did not remedy problem.
Vehicle was going 70mph and shut down. Speed sensor signals is not to move at low and high speeds. Once it shuts down, it can start back up. It cost the consumer $200 to replace speed sensor. Transmission failed too.
I feel that my Ford Ranger is an unsafe vehicle. I have had many problems with it since I bought it brand new. Everything stemming from holes in the floor to a faulty transmission and engine among faulty power windows and electrical on more than one occasion.. I just wonder what is next. I am worried about the future of this vehicle especially with its past track record. Please send me any information that may be of help to get Ford to buy my vehicle back. My email is jennetic@aol.com or sacroxx1@aol.com.
In cold weather vehicle has to be put in 4-wheel drive to start, otherwise, vehicle will not move. The consumer states this vehcile was unsafe to drive.
Dome light inside of vehicle would stay on at all times, and run the battery down. Also, dealership changed the driveshaft and transmission. When using transmission, consumer heard a noise. Noise was not there at first until dealership replaced transmission.
Transmission problems: Transmission shutters and shakes car violently at start of acceleration, and in between some gears. Transmission clunk into gear intermitently. Shutters at braking as transmission is gearing down. Problem was so bad. In shop 42 days total. Dealer (peyton creamer) tried to fix. Could not. After filing under ca lemon law to get a replacement vehical, Ford offered me a buy back of my vehical. I accepted. I now have a new truck and it too is doing most of the same transmission problems. I no longer own this 1999 truck but do still own the 2000 truck which I too have made a complanint on. Dealer is pretty much refusing to have my truck in thier shop any more unless they hear from Ford.
What is happening is, I bought the truck December 1998 service required in Jan 99 approx. They could not duplicate the problem they daid after repeated attempts by me to get them to let me show them and they did not comply. Then Ford questionaire people called me, and he said if the problem wasnt fixed to call back I no longer have the name or number but the truck went back again to the dealer. They said the second time there was nothing wrong. I just got through with an entire week and a half of arguing with them they once again said not a thing wrong, the service manager would not even give me the courtesy of talking to me. The mechanic took the truck after I said I was not leaving and put his foot on the brake put the truck in gear
