Electrical control of engine is by small module. When it is malfunctioning the engine does not idle or shift properly and then overheats and can blow the head gasket like it did on my sons car. Stays fixed for about 5 months. Most shops diagnose it as a bad thermostat which has been replaced several times.
Time to sell the truck or replace the engine.
