Bought a used 99 Ranger to help with hauling stuff (yard waste mostly). Like a fool I didn't take it to a mechanic first. But after an oil change, I was advised the entire frame was rusting away. Not just usual rust, but chunks falling off. Full blown rot. It's only got 169k...my old Volvo has over 280k and no rust and our Hyundai with 203k and no rust. WTF?! Engine, transmission and interior are all in good shape. However, had to have the front part of frame fixed for fear of having the engine collapse into the wheel. Now I find out the gas strap and cross beams under the bed are rusted...and also the brackets that hold up the gas tank. These are obvious as out of a 2 inch thick piece of metal is now only 1/4 inch thick with no strength. Failed inspection and not sure how much to fix. Ford, get your act together and do what Toyota did..RECALL. Or give me a new frame or a comparable settlement for my repair costs. Built Ford tough? Quality is job 1? I don't think so. False advertising. Like all the other posts...do not buy this brand.
