On April 06 2023, I dropped off my 2017 Mustang GT California to the Ford dealer for routine maintenance. The dealer representative recommended to perform the 30K miles maintenance program to the car (which at the time has 31,768 miles). The following was worked in the vehicle at the Ford dealer:
- Motor Oil and Filter Change
- Cleaning, Treatment and Change of Automatic Transmission Oil
- MOA engine oil additive
- Engine Air Filter Change
- A/C Air Filter (Cabin Air Filter) Change
- Brake Flush and Brake Oil Replacement
- Cleaning of Admission Valves (Intake Valves) and Combustion Camera
On May 11 2023, I was stopped at the traffic light (about a block away from my house), and suddenly the whole vehicle started to failing (the type of failure was kind of loss motive of powerhorse). I immediately pulled over and turned off the vehicle. Once the tow truck arrived, the vehicle engine was turned on to tow the car on the platform. After turning on the vehicle, there was a heavy “metal to metal" sound coming from the engine, therefore the vehicle was turned off immediately. The car was towed and dropped off to the Auto Vega Ford dealer on May 13 2023 due to the recent engine maintenance was worked at the dealer.
At the time of the failure, the check engine light emerged in the speedometer panel. There was not any other alarm light that emerged.
On May 13, Ford dealer representative mentioned that the catastrophic engine failure was potentially related to an internal mechanical issue. They did not have a definitive conclusion of why the vehicle with ~ 32K miles only had such an apparent mechanical failure. They are recommending putting a new motor (long block).
Could this be related to Ford engine “mechanical design” issue?
