The problem started out of the blue, without any prior issues. So from what I have read in other forums, this problem may be caused by defective lowside fuel injector sensor. I am bringing my car to Ford dealership later to be checked. From what I read, 2015 Mustang was recalled for this issue but not 2016. I checked the sensor on my car and it is the fuel injector sensor that was discontinued and replaced with a new version. So if this is the issue, what hasn't Ford recalled the 2016 Mustangs that have this part?
