My base radio with Sync will occasionally reboot. The screen goes blank then starts up again. If the radio only is playing, it will play thru the reboot. No big deal. Sometimes it happens with a CD...again, it reboots and continues to play. The bigger issue is when I have my IPhone 6 connected via bluetooth and I'm using the phone. If I am talking on the phone and this reboot occurs, the screen goes blank, then starts up...but the system will not come out of phone mode...but won't play the phone through the speakers. It locks the radio/infotainment system and my phone. No buttons will work and the system won't completely turn off,so I can't use the radio. It doesn't even acknowledge the radio exists. The only way to reset is to STOP THE CAR, TURN THE CAR OFF AND OPEN THE DOOR. after that, just start the car and everything works.
I have had the car in the dealership 4 times. They can't duplicate it, so they won't fix or replace anything. They just send me home. I provided 2 videos to them to prove what was happening. They can't duplicate it so they won't fix or replace anything. I opened Ford Case# CAS-9858880. I spoke to Rhonda, the regional Service Manager regarding my Radio/Sync system issues today 6/22/2016. Basically, she said that I can't get this fixed since the dealer can't duplicate the issue. She did say that if it happens again, I should rush to the dealership to get it diagnosed. This rebooting does not happen on command. I provided 2 videos of the system rebooting for you to assist in a diagnosis. Also, if the phone is not connected, the radio just reboots and I guess it doesn't leave a code since you haven't been able to find it. My concern is that my warranty will expire before I can prove it. This is extremely frustrating as neither the manager or Ford seem to actually believe me, despite the video proof.
Update from Jun 22, 2016: I am running IPhone IOS 9.3.2 and SYNC V5.9
Update from Sep 12, 2016: Update with good news, I think. Iphone was the problem. When IOS updated to 9.3.5, the reboot stopped. It has not returned since the update. While the service tech mentioned it as a long shot possibility, the service bulletin did not mention that 9.3.2 to 9.3.5 was an issue. So the problem cleared itself with software updates.
