Car became hard to shift, especially 1st gear at a stop light. I took car to Ray Skillman Ford who said there was a technical bulleting about using a new fluid. I got into the car for a test drive, and it was the same. They refused to acknowledge an issue. This being my fourth Mustang, I know how clutches work.
I drove the car a short while longer and it became impossible to shift gears. The clutch would not disengage to shift. I researched online and found out the 2011 5.0 mustangs built before FEB of 2011 had a different clutch, and it was changed in FEB. Those with the previous design, which mine was built in May 2010, had problems with loose bolts and sheered alignment pins. I took the car to a local mechanic who said the clutch was out. I contacted three different Ford dealers about recalls and warranty replacement. All three said that it was a wear item and it would cost me approximately $1700 dollars for parts and labor. I bought aftermarket parts and took it to another shop outside Ford. I wasn't about to give them $1700-1800 to fix what should have been covered under warranty. When the mechanic took the transmission out, he told me about bolts that were not even finger tight and how pins were sheared off. He works specifically on transmissions and said he had never seen a new car like this, and felt there was an install problem or serious design flaw...
I is really sad that I can research the internet and find hundreds of the same problem in those early 2011 built cars. I just spoke with a sales manager for Ford and he admitted they have seen several of those cars and worked on them... Ford needs to give me my money back and just admit they jacked up.
When I first took the car is, an approx. date. Its been a few years ago and I just found this site and cant find when I took it in, but I'm sure its in Fords history.
