The problem was first detected when I bought the car 7/2012, with 44,500 miles, and reported to a Ford dealer 9/18/2012. The initial problem was the air bag light came on occasionally indicating it was not working even when an occupant sat in the seat. To my surprise the dealer indicated that this was not a covered problem since the car's general warranty wouldn't cover since the car had over 36,000 miles and this was not covered on an extended warranty.
They could not tell me specifically what the problem was when first reported and told me it would cost about $400 to remove the seat and trace the wiring to see what the problem was. Later 12/12/2014, when I reported again they indicated they were fairly certain it was the sensor since they found the same problem on similar cars. It cost me $200 to replace.
