Everything about 2006 Mustang paint is inferior work.
The paint on the hood started coming off on the underside and slowly spread to the lip of the hood. Got an estimate of around $450. To refinish, Ford paint shop said they had seen many cases like this. The source was where the under panel joins the outer hood panel.
Car is like new except the peeling paint. Ford needs to learn to paint cars. I realize the car is 10 years old but come on I see cars out of the 80s and older that don't have these paint problems. Now that I think of it Ford has had a lot of paint issues for many years.
Brought car in before 100K. Fuel gauge was broken and paint on hood was bubbling and peeling off. Was told that fuel gauge worked fine and the paint problem on the hood was 'normal wear and tear'.
Fuel gauge is still broken. I have to reset the trip odometer every time I fill up so I know how much gas is left in the tank. The paint on my hood is peeling off everywhere. I've found out Ford used inferior aluminum hoods. Then sent notices out to dealers about how they cause paint pealing. This same dealer told me it was my fault my hood looks like Swiss cheese...
The hood of my Mustang the paint just started peeling chipping and bubbling. I take very good care of my car and this shouldn't be happening for no reason. I have had my car hand waxed 2 or 3 times a year I have done it even myself with a diaper to unsure no harm to paint job.

I have the infamous iron contamination on the aluminum hood of an S-197 2006 Ford Mustang. The vehicle was purchased pre-owned from Wayne Akers Ford in Lake Worth, FL in August of 2007. In July of 2008 I brought the car into service at the dealership with bubbling paint on both sides of the hood. The service-advisor took some photos and claimed he sent them to Ford Corporate but that I was denied my warranty. 6 years later—the paint is peeling—a chunk of the front lip actually fell off of the hood. It's a shame Ford won't acknowledge this problem they created; other than this manufacturing defect, the car is well built & made to last. If they had repaired the vehicle & stood by their product, I would have purchased more Ford products. Estimates to have the hood redone are up to $1100.00 (NY tri-$tate area) however, body shops in NJ & FL have told me the iron contamination will eventually bubble & peel the new paint in a couple of years. They said to get a new hood and make sure it wasn't OEM from Ford as they still have this problem.
The hood on my Mustang has had the paint peeling for sometime now. Went to the dealership where I bought, I got the runaround until my warranty expired.
Reported the problem to Ford and my Service Dealer/ was advised that it was not a known issue. Oddly enough have seen quite a bit of commentary regarding paint bubbling and peeling on Ford Mustang Hoods on the internet. Also visited a local body shop and was advised that it is a known issue.
it makes my car look trashy. when i brought it to ford they said it was no longer covered. this problem was not my fault and I have the way it makes my car look. ford is liable, I have damages, they caused the problem I want it fixed.
Bought my car 6/06 and 8 months after I have had it, paint was peeling on front hood. The peeling is also underneath all along inside of hood. Peeling on front of hood has continued to peel and six months ago paint is peeling left front corner on hood. I took my car to the dealership where I purchased the car and denied it is a Ford problem and not covered under warranty. If I wanted it repainted it would cost me $1200 out of my pocket. I filed a complaint with the General Manager and he said same thing dealership did. I took my car to a reputable body shop and they have seem this before on Ford Mustangs and it is an aluminum hood and was not prepped properly. He suggest to replace hood an gave me an estimate of $1500. I feel it is Ford's problem and they should replace hood with newly painted hood. I have always taken pride in my vehicles, and I am embarrassed driving my car.
Ford needs to admit the fact that their paint/corrosion insulating process was faulty. They need to provide an acceptable solution to their customers. I am not buying a Ford again.
It will cost me $650 to have the issue repaired and the garage cannot guarantee the problem won't return. I probably will not buy another Ford because of this.
I had this same problem fixed under warranty about 3 years ago and not the bubbling is back in the exact same place. The Ford dealership wants me to pay $600 for a repair that will come back again. I think being that Ford knows about the issue, they have issues a TSP on this, that it is clearly a manufacturing defect that they should replace the hood at no cost.
Bought this car new, reported flaking to dealer in 08. Dealer (Gladstone Ford Londonderry NH) said it was NOT covered by warantee I would have to pay for repair. I have since come to learn this was a common defect in these hoods due to impropery treated aluminum. Dealer has since changed hands and is under different ownership under a new name. Why is or did Ford NOT honor the warantee under defect? I would have had it repaired then.
I noticed paint blistering on several points on front lip of hood area. It started from underhood area where the metel was folded and joined and blistering slowly worked its way up and around to front of hood where I first noticed it. I was out of warranty by 4-6 months and over by 3000km when I went to the nearest FORD dealer to have it sorted. They were not the dealer I bought the vehicle from and wouldn't even look at it. I went to my regular dealership and they said I would probably have to pay most of the bill myself if they helped. I called FORD of CANADA and the woman finally got back to me saying FORD was not aware of this type of problem and I had the TSB from FORD in my hand and I recited it to her. I also said that FORD admits the fault was with there prep work so they need to take responsibility for there poor workmanship, she denied it was fords fault and again I had to recite the paragraphe from there TSB stating they were aware of metal contamination caused from the prep work before painting.
All I can say is FORD does POOR workmanship and they LIED to me to save a penny.
The under side of hood is rusting near the front,causing the paint to blister and peel.I had FORD look at the problem , their reply is aluminum does not oxidize, which is BS.A body shop stated there was pour prep work before the paint was applied. Ford Customer Rep. informed me the rust warranty is good for 5 years BUT the metal has to have a hole in it to be covered.Aluminum will not oxidize like steel.
I have a problem with the paint peeling of my hood. It is a 2006 ford mustang with 8400 miles, garaged and babied since day one. Ford told me my warranty is up and thier is nothing they will do, knowing thiers a problem that started at the factory. When i brougt my car to the service man he told me its a common problem ford is well aware of.
