My Mustang is devalued from other comparable models without this issue and what makes me so angry about this is that Ford has essentially taken blame by releasing the TSB 06-25-15 bulletin, but they haven't accepted responsibility even though it IS their fault. They knew about this issue in 2004 when they released the first bulletin (TSB 04-25-1) and continued to allow cross-contamination of iron particles onto the aluminum used in the hood.

I've been raised a Ford guy. My dad has owned over 50+ cars, all Fords, including at least 5 or so Mustangs, one of which was a 1970 Boss 429. Every car I've owned is a Ford including a 1966 Ford Falcon Futura Sports Coupe, a 1970 Mustang, a 1986 Thunderbird, a 1989 Mustang LX, a 1993 Cougar XR7, a 2007 Mustang V6, and a 2006 Mustang GT. He taught me that Ford was a company unlike GM, where they stand for respect and quality. By not accepting RESPONSIBILITY and owning up to their failures in this regard, they're alienating the people that love their company and continue to not only buy their vehicles, but recommend them to their family members.

This is reprehensible and needs to be dealt with. Ford should honor and fix this issue without cost to the consumer for all owners affected.

Mustang 3.2L

06 Mustang purchased new AND installed with anti-corrosion unit at an extra cost of $1000 (which was pushed by the salesman!). Hood started bubbling around the 4/5 year mark, first around the front, then finally all around the edge and underside. Found the TSB after contacting the dealer and Ford Canada. Had quotes to repair the hood for approx. $1400, whereby the dealer and Ford agreed to pay for 1/3, and there would be no guarantee that it would solve the problem. I fought with them for years that I should not have to pay ANYTHING towards the repair considering I had the anti-corrosion unit and their own TSB stated it was their fault that the hood was contaminated before painting. After getting nowhere with either party, I purchased an aftermarket fibreglass hood for the same cost as the quote for the repairs. I am quite happy with the new hood, but very disappointed with Ford and the dealership. Apparently at Ford, quality is no longer Job #1. I have since found that there is a class action lawsuit in the US against Ford for this very issue, but I believe it does not apply to Canada.

Mustang 4.6L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 50,000 miles

Problem is that the aluminum hood is contaminated by iron BEFORE PAINTING, which means at the manufacturer. I have heard that Ford has not fixed this problem after 10 years. They are still making cars with the same problem.

DO NOT BUY A FORD UNTIL THEY FIX THIS PROBLEM!!!

ford mustang aluminum hood corrosion and paint bubbles My 2006 Ford Mustang GT had only 14,000 miles on it when I noticed while hand washing my Mustang the hood had bubbles in the paint. The aluminum hood was showing signs of corrosion. My Mustang is in MINT condition (other than the corrosion of the hood). My Mustang has less than 20K original miles, lives in the garage at home and at work. I still have the original tires on the car, and holding the Mustang to be a classic; without a corroded hood!

I contacted Ford Motor Company and told them my story. They (customer services) told me they had NO complaints and NO knowledge of this issue and could not help me, since my Mustang was way under the miles limit, but over the years. I asked for corporate and was denied the contact information.

I did some research and later found out that Ford Motor Company out and out bold faced lied. They at that time was being sued, "March 15, 2013 NYTimes - Judge Allows Suit Over Aluminum Corrosion in Fords to Move Forward."

Not to mention if you Google, "Ford Mustang hood bubble or corrosion" you pull up many complaints. Also if you Google, "lawsuit against Ford Mustang hood", you pull up many complaints.

On December 27, 2004 Ford issued a TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN. Issue: Some vehicles may exhibit a bubbling or blistering under the paint on aluminum body parts. This is due to iron contamination of the aluminum panel. Background: Ford's Scientific Research Laboratory has performed a number of tests on vehicle body parts returned for corrosion related concerns. Testing has revealed that the aluminum corrosion was caused by iron particles working their way into the aluminum body part, prior to it being painted.

Ford still denies this! I want Ford to do the right thing and REPLACE my Mustang hood that has less than 20K miles on the car that sits in the garage! This is POOR customer service and Ford should be ashamed for covering this problem up (sweeping it under the carpet).

ATTENTION FORD CORPORATE OR CUSTOMER SERVICE - do the RIGHT thing here! Replace these hoods!!!
