Mustang Premium 4.6L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 29,000 miles

A D V E R T I S E M E N T S

Car has a floor shifter that supposedly is to shift gears like a manual transmission, and I did that a fair amount when driving hard on tight twisty roads. Well ( I bought car used with 19000 miles on it in 2008) threw on some sticky tires, drove it to Santa Monica via Lake Tahoe and highway 395 from PDX, returned crisscrossing between highway 1 and 101 on every twisty road I could find, ( had a blast!), shifting manually, One was that the trans got hot and started slipping when pushing it hard, I had to pull over and cool it off, that was annoying, and after using on that trip, is when it started slipping in reverse.

Well it turns out, I learned this from Marty at Marty's Transmission shop in PDX, that the trans was originally built for the V8 Exploder , and was not designed to be shifted manually. THE REASON BEING that the transmission uses the reverse gear clutches to give first gear drag when decelerating, when using first gear selection on the shifter!!!! LIKE WTF? And I can attest to the fact that it doesn't take very many miles to render reverse useless, cost to repair was $2900.

I'm stunned that FORD would sell A Mustang GT with such a glaring flaw/ I bought the damn thing to keep me off my 1100xx Honda Blackbird because I just can't go slow on it, I've dumped the Mustang, and back on Big Bird.

At 24000, miles I had to replace ball joints and all the rubber in the front suspension, $800. it was all wore out!?? Like really man? Another thing, it didn't really handle for sh*t , my 91 Ranger Super Cab 4wd handles every bit as good in 25 to 60 mph corners. Won't be buying another Mustang. I love the looks of them but looks ain't everything. I did get 26.3 mpg once.

Mustang V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 63,000 miles

I am the second owner of my 2005 Mustang, I purchased it in March of 2012 with approximately 49,000 miles on it. The car to my knowledge has never been in any accidents and had received all routine maintenance. After purchasing the car I too have been accident free and have kept up with all routine oil changes and fluid changes. After an oil change at Jiffy Lube in November my car suddenly started slipping out of gear. It slipped randomly from drive into neutral, first, second, third, and reverse with no warning and no indication it was going to do so. This occurred on my way to work and I was lucky to escape the incident without being in a serious accident, as I found myself suddenly going in reverse from a stop at a light in busy downtown traffic.

I had my car towed, as it was obviously completely unsafe to drive, to the local Ford dealership where I was informed that the transmission was experiencing "massive internal failure due to uneven wearing from servo bars". I was also informed that this is a very common problem with this particular transmission. After poking around online I came to see that this is very true, I paid to have a brand new transmission put into the car to the tune of $4600. I am anxious that the problem isn't really even fixed since they put the same model of transmission as the last one back into my car and since this is obviously an issue on Ford's end it is likely that in another 60,000 miles I'll be right back where I am now.

This is a dangerous, potentially life threatening issue and Ford needs to issue a recall for this item in order to save lives and it is also insanely expensive to boot. My car has been gently driven and well cared for through out it's entire 10 years on the road and has remarkably low miles for it's age, there is absolutely no reason why the transmission should have suddenly gone out on it after an oil change (one that I had investigated by a third party company to ensure that Jiffy Lube was not at fault for the damage). Shame on Ford for allowing this to happen and for not reaching out to financially reimburse their customers for this disastrous, expensive, and potentially life threatening issue with this vehicle.

Mustang GT 4.6L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 67,500 miles

I Changed fluid @ recommended intervals. As a 10 year old car with 67500 miles it is not high mileage. I do drive it well, but that's what it was built for.

Automatic Gearbox showed some slippage @ 40,000. Took it to Ford. They had "intermittent" readings and replaced a valve. Yesterday it just quit, the transmission will not engage reverse. Didn't try much else.

My mechanic said this is a normal problem for 05- 2010 mustangs. Anybody else hear of this?

Mustang GT V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 61,667 miles

A D V E R T I S E M E N T S

I bought my Mustang new in 2004 before there was even one in the showroom to see. It is the car I always wanted but could never afford before. I had previously had 2 old Mustangs (both 68's) that I loved but were money pits. Last fall at 99,243K (61,667M) the transmission failed. I had problems off and on in the previous months with shifting (or not shifting) and the car jumping when trying to shift into reverse but they were intermittent. I parked the car for the winter, then had it rebuilt this spring....it cost me $4741 Canadian! Although this car is 10 years old it has always been summer driven and lady driven! There is absolutely no way that a tranny should fail with that low a mileage. Although I love my car I won't ever be buying another Ford product.

Mustang GT 4.6L 3v Ohc V8

  • Manual transmission
  • 24,000 miles

My fiance happened to be driving at the time and we were on our way home when he tells me he can't get the car in 1st gear, the gear was grinding, then he couldn't get in 2nd and then 3rd. The car starting revving up on her own and started sounding like a deisel. We tried to limp her home in 4th gear but that went out next. All 5 gears were shot and we had to pull off the side of the road - late at night. I am grateful I was with him and not by myself stranded on the side of the road.

Of course Ford, being the crappy manufacturer that they are could give a rats-ass about it. Said "not under warranty so it's your problem!" WTF!!!! 24,000 and the clutch and transmission - gone!!!

Ford Motor Corporation bites!!!! I have never ever been so disappointed in one company in my entire life. I have talked to several guys with F150s and F250s having engines blowing, etc. and again what does Ford say - "Your problem". They are the most uncaring, cold hearted SOBs I've ever had the displeasure of dealing with.

Thank God for Chevy/GMC - GMC stands for "God Made Chevys". :)

I'm going to get my bad-ass Camaro this weekend!!!!

Mustang Convertible V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 122,000 miles

The tranny was giving out. one owner, babied by wife, all commuting miles. OD light starting coming on and the tranny would shift OUT of overdrive at freeway speeds. This was happening constantly. Took it in to a friend who owns an auto repair shop and he performed a fluid change. Old fluid was black. He said '05 automatic tranny's in Ford products had notorious issues such as this. He said to expect to replace the transmission as these sealed tranny's are not repairable.

We traded the Mustang in for a NON-Ford product.

  • Manual transmission
  • 24,000 miles

A D V E R T I S E M E N T S

My transmission went out completely! It happened late at night and had to be towed. The car has only 24,000 miles! Ford Motor Corporation sucks!!!! They will not provide support whatsoever. Wouldn't even look at the car or listen to me. The car has been babied. She gets parked in a garage, does not have any door dings. I will not park her just anywhere. I don't dog on the car. Sure, I've got on her at times but the car is built for that. I have never double clutched, I have never dragged the clutch nor banged the car into gear. This car has been highly taken care of - she still looks brand new. Heck she only has 24,000 miles on her! I cannot believe such a major issue has happened. Of course the clutch is also gone - not sure if clutch or trans went first. I will be reporting that issue next! I have another issue even after that one!

I am a GM girl at heart - always have been and wanted to new Camaro but Chevy took too long to manufacture the car so I gave up and bought the Mustang.

Never again will I even contemplate buying a Ford - only because of the fact that Ford could give a CRAP about their customers once they sell the car or truck and have your money - you mean nothing to them!

I am gong to trade the Ford in for a Chevy!!!

Ford is the worst car manufacturer on earth!

One piece of advice: DON'T BUY A FORD!!!!!!

Mustang GT 4.6L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 105,000 miles

I have a 2005 Mustang GT with 105,000 miles on it. I meticulously maintain this vehicle with very detailed maintenance records. I drive this vehicle so carefully that I have the original brake pads with more than 50% of the pad remaining. I have never "dogged" this vehicle, as, again, me having the original brake pads having over 105,000 miles. The transmission started missing the 5th gear or rather, it began not going into overdrive. I immediately took it to the dealership and they test drove it, checked it, and told me that the overdrive gear was gone and that there was metal in the fluid. I had a Ford dealership service the transmission back when I had 75,000 miles on the vehicle. The manufacturer's recommendation is 60,000 miles. It is costing me $3,100 to replace the transmission. The trans is the 5R55S 5-speed automatic. What's up with this?

Mustang GT 4.6L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 87,500 miles

We bought this car brand new to replace our 2002 Mustang GT Convertible. Who designs a trans that you cannot check the fluid level, and that you need special tools to fill? I swear, engineers need to actually think about the end user, instead of what will fit into what space. Anyway, this car has not been beat on, the tires lasted 81k, and I changed the brakes at 75k even though they didn't need it. Love to drive the car, especially with the top down. I just can't afford to replace the trans right now. Should only cost me about $1100 to put in a junkyard trans.

Mustang 4.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 179,000 miles

2005 Ford v6 Mustang tranny sucks.I've had the transmission serviced several times. Now it quit on me.Fords are no longer reliable.I dont have the money for a new tranny. And i still owe money on it.Oh yea the tranny flush and fill machine,is a joke.Because most never replace the filter. So your filter is mostly pluged with gunk. And you know what happens next.Another trip to the Ford Dealer that caused all this crap in the first place. To sell you another tranny.

Save your tranny. And change the fluid and filter the ole fashion way.By the way.The dealership will never admit it was their fault.I will never buy another Ford.Just because of this very costly crap........
