My 05 Mustang GT only fills up half a tank when pumping fuel. To get the remaining 8 gallons of gas In to the fuel tank, I need to sit there and pump slowly. This is time consuming and very annoying. I have seen many complaints about this same issue, and I believe that Ford should step up and replace the gas tanks. Does anyone know how to get this issue to a recall level?

Stupid gas tank will not fill, and pump stops when filling due to poor design by Ford. They openly state its their flawed design and finally fix it on 2008 models going forward, but do not want to recall the previous models. Expect customer to pay for this $1000 fix. This is very annoying issue especially when trying to get gas in the middle of winter outside trying to pump gas and only about $1 will go in the tank.Once again I will never buy a Ford again, they just lost a customer. Will be buying a Camaro.

Slow to fill. Really bad on cold windy days. Can not fill on auto at the pump. Have to hold nozzle and fill slowly, or it shuts off.

I was actually heartened in a misery-loves-company kinda way to see that I am not alone in this problem -- but pretty much ever since buying my pre-owned 2005 Mustang GT convertible, the filling gas tank has been, shall we say, a project. Fortunately, I was able to figure out early on that if you turn the nozzle upside down the gas flows almost normally, but the valve will still shut off once or twice on a fill up sometimes. The real bitch is that my dashboard gauges also crapped out on me, with probably less than 30,000 miles on the car, and so it's really difficult to know when the tank is really full or just full of bull. Otherwise I love my ragtop pony, but why the hell isn't there a recall on this ridiculous problem?

bjhugh01, I got you beat man, took me literally 45 minutes to say hell with it, I either make it to work or I don't at the gas pump last weekend. My resolution is only temporary, I am getting a gas can and that is the only way I will put any gas into that damn car from here on out but am listing FOR SALE!! I have been fighting this problem since 2009 when I bought the pile of you know what.

So, it seems if the gas pump is to powerful the tank will read full and shut pump down. Gotta know which pumps to use.....haha...really!!!!! I know everyone I cant use at 5 different gas stations....Seems silly but is annoying when you pre-pay!

Don't try to add gas to this car when the tank is half-full. It only wants to filled up when empty. If you cock the gas pump handle sideways, that sometimes helps. Some pumps are worse than others. I think there's an airflow problem or something weird with the design of the gas tank/filler system.

I bought a 2005 used v6 Mustang in February 2010. After driving and filling the gas tank a few times, I started having trouble filling the tank without the pump shutting off before the tank was full. The problem has escalated since, and today it took me 10 minutes to fill the tank halfway, with gas squirting out just before the pump would shut off. I will post an update as to how I went about getting this issue resolved.

I have a 2005 Mustang I bought in 2006. I love my car it's my dream car until about 2 months ago it takes me 30 minutes to fill the gas tank up. It keeps stopping every $1.00 or every .50 cents. Of course this problem is not covered under extended warranty. I'm a loyal Ford customer and after this problem I'm no longer a loyal Ford customer. After all the money I have put into this car for other problems I even complained to corporate with the water all the sudden draining in the floor of my passenger side. I'm heartbroken my dream car is no longer my favorite.
