Got run around from dealership and Ford; 2nd dealer put me in touch with specialty shop doing all their convertible top repairs... according to him, he's fixed 'many' because there is a weakness in the design that Ford fixed in later models ..2008 on.Seems linkage arm can slip out of alignment and hits frame and snaps...redesign has added strength so misalignment doesn't happen.
Est Cdn cost for new top installed appr0x $9000... much lower $6000 in US...go figure. especially since top has to come from US and $ nearly at par
Difficult to get a straight answer out of Ford... stonewalling at all levels. They don't recognise it as a potential safety issue; eg top can't be closed if stuck
