The contact owns a 2023 Ford Maverick. The contact stated that the vehicle would intermittently fail to start up after multiple attempts without warning. After jumpstarting the engine, the contact managed to drive the vehicle to a dealer where they updated the control module software. The contact was also advised by the dealer that if the failure persisted to continue jumpstarting the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for further assistance. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 1,000.
I was on a freeway cruising around 85 mph when all of a sudden my truck lost power and went into limp mode. I had 3 dash warnings about powertrain malfunction, front end collision being unavailable, and something about engaging gear at low speeds. This has happened once before. Same three messages. The vehicle loses power and speed FAST. Luckily both times I was able to pull over and turn the vehicle off and back on and it just has a check engine light and drives normal again. I have had one software recall completed on my truck and I have 17,000 miles.
After having recall 23E09 performed the vehicle loses power and shifts to Neutral while driving. When this happens I am unable to shift back to Drive. The display reads -??Gear Selected will Engage at Low Speed.-?? The "D" in the gear shift flashes. Once speed is reduced to around 5 MPH, the parking brake turns on automatically. The check engine light turns on, a "gear light" on the dash board is on, along with traction control light. The display then reads, -??Shift to Park, -?? -??Service AdvanceTrac, -?? -??Hill Start Assist Not Available, -?? -??Pre-Collision Assist Not Available, -?? and -??Service vehicle soon.-?? After turning the vehicle off and back on again, the vehicle will drive normally with a check engine light still present. The check engine light eventually turns off until the cycle repeats itself and the same issue occurs again. Code: U1011 - Invalid Internal Control Module Monitoring Data Received from ECM/PCM Code: U1028 - ABS Control Module Received Invalid Data from ECM/PCM 'A' Code: U1010 - Invalid Internal Control Module Monitoring Data Received from Hybrid Powertrain Control Module These codes are present each time this issue occurs. This vehicle is unsafe to drive as it loses power on the freeway without notice. This has happened to me 5 times since having recall 23E09 performed on [XXX]. Many other Ford Maverick owners are reporting the same issue on online forums after having this recall. Ford needs to take action before this kills somebody. I have taken the vehicle to Tri State Ford in Amarillo, TX and they say that they are unable to replicate the issue and that they cannot reprogram the PCM & SOBDMC until Ford releases an official fix. The odometer readings when the vehicle has lost power have been 2135, 2437, 3130, 3201, and 3864. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

For no reason the truck would not start. No electric signal at all inside the truck either. Also the ignition and steering were locked. Called Ford to send out someone to jump the truck. It then started right away. Also took to the Ford dealer to have them check it out. They could find nothing wrong. I also have had a problem with the truck not starting after driving it and then parking it. The battery will not respond, igniton will not work, not able to shift it at all. Completely locked up. I have to try starting the truck another couple of times for the green READY to come on. This is concerning as I do not understand why the truck locks up. This has happened on at least four occasions since I purchased this truck at the end of June 2023
I had 2 recalls fixed about 3 weeks ago. Today I was driving & my Maverick malfunctioned. (Maybe it's what they call Limp mode.) Many alerts & icons started flashing, I was prompted to pull over & call a dealer. I pulled over, was able to take some pics but some icons were no longer showing. I tried restarting the vehicle after a couple mins = same thing. I shut if off waited a few minutes & it worked. Well, check engine is still lit & some of the safety features won't turn on. I have copilot 360, lane keeping, etc, but most of those features are still affected. I called the dealer & am waiting for a call back. Many other Maverick hybrid owners have told me this happened after their recall fix. I wish I didn't get the recalls fixed.
I was driving down the road at roughly 45 mph when all of the sudden my car went into neutral I was no longer able to accelerate. I was in the middle of a four-lane road with a traffic light coming up in cars coming from the opposite direction. I happen to be very lucky and right next to the Ford dealership when this happened, but this could be a major safety issue as others would not be so fortunate when vehicle was thrown into neutral. All the dash lights came on the check engine light came on. Wrench icon popped up on the instrument cluster as my car began to slow down as I pulled over once I got to roughly 5 mph the parking break engaged and came to a screeching halt. I was not able to disengage the parking break and could not move the vehicle into the drive position anymore. As stated before I was right next to the Ford dealership when this happened so I walked over and talked to the service center, they didn-??t see any errors on my vehicle so I walked back to it started it up and the only remaining light was the check engine light and I was able to drive it over to the Ford dealership at which point the gentleman said he was able to see the errors. I have done a lot of reading online and this is called limp mode but is doing nothing to acknowledge this or proactively fix this on vehicles. From my understanding, this issue does not happen until after there are recalls done on the vehicle. I took my car into the shop at 9200 miles. Had it serviced for an oil change at which point Ford did two service recalls and now I-??m experiencing this issue
On [XXX] at approx. 9:30PM I was traveling on [XXX] in Garland, TX, at 70mph when my vehicle experienced a sudden loss of power, with speed immediately dropping to about 35-40mph. Cluster showed prompts saying 1) cannot use selected gear at this speed (light under "D" was flashing), 2) pre-collision not available; 3) Airbags sensor bad; 4) power-train warning; and, several others before telling me engine needed service. When I tried to accelerate it would go no faster than 25mph. When I applied the brakes and released them it would then accelerate to 35-40mph on its own. Engine light started flashing. When able to do so I pulled over and turned vehicle off. I started it back up and engine light stayed lit, but it continued to experience loss of power and go no faster than 25mph. Again, when I applied the brakes and released them it would accelerate to 35-40mph all on its own. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
I had just driven roughly 30 freeway miles on my way home and the truck suddenly flashes a barrage of errors, ESC fails, gear selection at low speed message, hill assist disable, pre-collision assist disabled, ABS light is on, MIL is on, service wrench is on, and drive mode selection is disabled. My truck lost all response to gas pedal, slows down and then slams on the parking brake at like 1-2 mph. I shut it down, started it back up. I had no gas pedal input. The truck self-accelerates up to 30-35 mph. I don't know at which speed it would've stopped accelerating because because the speed limit was only 30 mph. I ended up just riding the brakes to keep the speed down for 3/4 mile so I could get home. I went to reverse into my space at home and the truck was self accelerating in reverse as well. Normally it just rolls back slowly, but this truck was really moving. I abandoned the idea of backing in because I was scared it would just drive itself into the wall. I will not go back out on the roads in Los Angeles driving this vehicle until this is fixed, I would knowingly be putting my life and others lives in serious danger. I was fortunate that I had read about this happening in the past few weeks to several other Maverick owners who have had this problem, so I was aware of what was happening when it started and was only going about 30 mph and there wasn't much traffic around because it was a rainy night. This would've been horrifying if I were on the freeway or in moving traffic, which has happened to others. According to what I've found on the internet, this issue it is a result of some bad software installed in a recent recall. I had the recall done on [XXX] when I had an oil change. Not sure if this is appropriate but this is a reddit thread from a month ago with a bunch of other drivers that have had this happen: [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Received multiple error messages while driving including: -Pre-collision assist not available -Service engine soon -Powertrain malfunction/reduced power -Drive mode selection disabled. The -??D-?? on the gear shift was also flashing. I slowed down and the parking brake automatically engaged while still driving, which caused the truck to stop hard. I was able to drive it to a parking lot, but it felt like it was in between gears. I turned the truck off in the parking lot for a few minutes, and then successfully started it and made it to the dealership with warning lights on. This likely would have caused a wreck if it happened on a busy road at higher speeds. It sounds like many Maverick owners are experiencing this same issue after the last recall. I don-??t feel safe driving my vehicle until this is resolved.
On the freeway all of sudden the -??D-?? icon on the gear selected started flashing and then I started to receive multiple check engine light error messages one after the other, including: -??Gear Selected Will Engage at Low Speed -??Powertrain malfunction/reduced power -??Pre-collision assist not available -??Service engine soon warning -??Service AdvanceTrac -??Hill assist not available The truck then proceeded to switch into neutral all on its own and upon me trying to move the gear selector back into drive the car had zero power when applying the gas. I had to try to avoid traffic to get to the emergency lane with zero power just coasting to the side of the highway. Based on other Ford Maverick owners' testimony it seems Ford Maverick Hybrids getting a recall update to their Powertrain Control Module are then experiencing unpredictable and recurring instances of their truck suddenly having these check engine and random shutdown issues. It seems this has happened to dozens of owners, often at high speeds in the middle of the interstate. It begins with a sudden cascade of alerts (like 5 different malfunctions and systems shutting down). My Ford Maverick was towed and is currently being inspected at the Ford dealer.
Vehicle was traveling at 35 MPH. Vehicle shuddered and lost propulsion. Dash displayed following message: "Gear Selected will Engage at Low Speed" The "D" indicator on the shift knob was flashing. Vehicle was able to be pulled to side of road at very low speed. The following error messages were displayed in sequence: "Hill Start Assist Not Available" Pre-Collision Assist Not Available" "Service AdvanceTrac" Additionally, the following error light were iluminated: Check Engine Service Engine Soon Tranction Control Off 12 volt battery error Vehicle was turned off and restarted. The same error messages were displayed. Ford dealer was contacted to schedule a service visit. After a five minute wait, vehicle was able to start and drive, though performance was not as it had been. This morning, error lights remain
Leaving a parking spot, after about 75 ft of travel, wrench and engine indicator light lit up along with scrolling warnings instructing service engine soon, service adv trac, hill start assist not available and pre collision assist not available. Vehicle abruptly slammed on the brakes and would not release. After several attempts to resolve the stopping issue, I was able to engage drive and the vehicle allowed me to travel at 34 mph max. There was no throttle and I had to ride the brakes in order to regulate the 34 mph limit. This a unsafe condition that Ford needs to resolve asap.
Driving on highway whent alerts all at once, including * Gear Selected Will Engage at Low Speed * Powertrain malfunction/reduced power * Pre-collision assist not available * Service engine soon warning * Service AdvanceTrac * Hill assist not available. Vehicle lost power on road and almost got hit.
A couple of weeks after getting some software (or maybe firmware?) recalls done on my Ford Maverick my husband and I were driving down a semi-residential street. Suddenly the car went into limp mode and flashed a bunch of lights on the dash. So the car was limping along, but when my husband took his foot off the brake, the car started accelerating on its own. The car would brake when he hit the brakes but the second he lifted his foot off the brakes the car would start accelerating to about 40 mph. We were only a couple miles from our house, and we were able to get home safely, semi-careening our way there. Luckily there weren't any kids playing in the street (there often are) or any pedestrians crossing somewhere unexpectedly. The next day, my husband took the truck to the Ford dealership and told them about what had happened. He told them about how it went into limp mode and then accelerated by itself. They had the truck for basically the whole work day, and then brought it back. They said they couldn't recreate that failure so they cleared the codes, and told us to bring it in if it happened to them. When we got the documentation from the service it said that all they did was clear the codes. And they did NOT document ANYWHERE that we had reported that it had accelerated on its own. That night we found a Reddit thread that had lots of other people reporting the same failure and no satisfactory explanation was given, and, like us, none of them was certain that the issue had been "fixed." I'll upload the documentation they gave us, but again it's what they did NOT document that caused the most concern.
I took it to the dealer for a recall with a PCM programming. After that, I drove it for a few days and the car came to a sudden halt on the freeway. Luckily the cars behind me did not hit me but it is a safety concern and the dealerships are not able to find the problem
Was driving down a highway at about 75 MPH when the vehicle automatically shifted to neutral and gave the following warnings on the dash: Gear selected will engage at low speed, Powertrain malfunction/reduced power, pre-collision assist is not available, service engine soon warning, service advancedtrac, hill assist not available. This is about a month after other recalls were -??fixed-?? and other -??updates-?? to software were installed.
While driving up hill a check engine light and power train malfunction/ reduced power warning appeared. This caused my vehicle to be unable to accelerate and could have caused the vehicle that was behind me to collide with my vehicle. This is the second time this issue has happened and the dealer I have taken it to has been unable to figure out the issue. As far as I know only my dealer has inspected the vehicle and there were no other warning signs or messages before the malfunction happened.
On [XXX] the headlights on my 23 ford maverick xlt ecoboost decided to completely go out and stop working for a couple seconds when driving past a cop which resulted in him pulling me over. Other issues i have had are the electronic parking brake failing after pressing it almost 8 times and the car lurching forward where it almost hit a wall if i didn't hit the brake again. The radio sometimes is completely unresponsive and needs a hard reset. At a stoplight the other day it was raining, once green the truck slammed into gear and the rpm jumped sky high to 5000 rpm, the traction control light didn't go off either and sounded like something metal was grinding and the hood completely flexed. All of this is recorded on dashcam which i have saved, reach out to me if you want the videos. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
