Car purchased in December 2015, noticed bubbled paint on FOUR places along edge of hood on April 18, 2019. . Each is at least 1/8 to 3/15 inch up from the lip of the hood and some of the bubbling is visible on the underside. The bubbling has resulted in the paint splitting/cracking along the edge of the hood.
This was not caused by a paint chip or dent - how would that be possible in four different places!
All vehicle service has been done by the dealership and paid for a dealer paint protectant plan as well.
Did research on the Internet - other Ford owners have reported similar paint issues with various other Ford models including the Mustang and Explorer, especially with aluminum hoods - the pictures posted on-line look very similar to paint damage visible on my car.
I have NEVER owned a vehicle (new or used) with this sort of bubbling paint. My Fusion is 3 years 4 months old with only 20,180 miles - I'm still making payments on the car! I was planning on keeping this car for at least 7-10 years.
I have an appointment with my dealer for the first week in May - will update (if allowed) with the response from dealer and/or FMC.
I would be interested to hear if any other Fusion owners have the same problem and any resolution, if any, to get the paint fixed or the hood replaced. I read on-line that if the the dealer bodyshop does not do it "right" (if the hood is aluminum), the issue may return in less than a year.
Update from May 2, 2019: 5/2/2019: Service advisor at dealership contacted Ford's warranty administrator and he got approval to replace the hood. He is going to order one, get the dealer body shop to paint it and will let me know when it's ready to be installed.
The 2016 Fusion Warranty Guide on page 11 has a section that says if aluminum body panels have corrosion or rust damage that is not caused by external damage, "the corrosion or rust damage repairs are covered for 5 years, unlimited miles".
