While driving down a city street my car had a complete loss of power, with multiple warning lights and alarms going off. There was no warning of this failure prior as the car was operating normally. Associated with this loss of power was a loss of steering and a loss of power assist braking, which resulted in the car came to a stop in the middle of the street. Once in park it would not allow changing gears. A tow truck required the use of tire dolly's to load the vehicle, which was taken to the dealer for diagnosis. The dealer maintenance department was unable to diagnose a cause, and used the analogy that the car had an "electrical seizure, " which I interpret as a catastrophic electrical system failure. They were able to make the car operable by rebooting, and reinstalling software, to the car's computer.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Fusion energi. When the vehicle was started, the power steering assist warning indicator illuminated. The indicator turned off when the vehicle was restarted. The same failure occurred previously. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who determined that the cam position shaft needed replacement. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 90,486.
