rodent damage to wiring

To save money Ford uses soybean products in their wiring. This is my second time paying for Ford's using a wiring product that rodents love to eat. Thanks Ford for saving a few bucks on wiring that has now cost me close to $1,500.00 to repair. Time to find my next car, and it won't be one that uses a known food source for rodents.

Fusion Sport 2.7L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 3,400 miles

Brand new 2017 Fusion Sport with 3,400 miles. Heater went out so the dealer recommended I bring the car in to rule out coolant leak.

Open the hood to reveal that I have Rodent Damage! I've never heard of this. I live in an upscale neighborhood with routine gardening and pest control. This car is only 3 months old. Dealer removed the engine cover in front of me and I saw the beginnings of a white insulation nest and droppings. The coolant line running across the engine was chewed and leaking. We saw other lines and wires with similar damage across the entire engine compartment.

I'm looking at over $1,000 in repair bills on a car I've only made 3 payments on! I've done some quick research to find this is actually a big problem with "newer" (2016) cars because of the new SOY BASED materials the car makers are using. Rodents commonly visit the warm engine bays of vehicles, now they are provided with something that smells and tastes like FOOD...

The problem is that it will happen again and again, Its now up to me to ensure a small rodent (mouse) NEVER enters my engine compartment again. This is ridiculous....

I am furious that I have to pay for damages that were created by a change in the manufacturing process that encourages rodents to destroy the electrical system of a car. This is going to be a huge problem for car makers and car owners for years. Its the next Takata Air Bag crisis, Which I also was part of.... If a class action suit comes up, I'M IN!
