The design is inadequate to ensure the shifter cable does not come off. Besides Ford using a cheap plastic bushing that degrades rather quickly. I'm sure the designers can do a better job. I understand that numerous Ford vehicles have this same problem.

There are several ways to fix this problem, install a newly designed trans lever where a small bolt and washer can be used to secure the cables bushing from moving upwards or install simple bracket that would not allow the cable end from rising upwards. This is a serious safety issue that Ford needs to address immediately. Other than being stranded if it slips off the vehicle isn't in park and can roll although the indicator states it is in park.

My question is if Ford has known about this problem why haven't they made a adequate design change, are you waiting for several people to be killed or seriously injured?

88000 highway miles on this car. 2nd week had car throttle position sensor went bad, one month later a/c belt comes off. 60000 miles water pump was leaking, recall on the steering wheel. And you want us to buy another Ford? Why is this car not being recalled for this problem, I've seen about 100 complaints online and I would hate to see how many people have all ready had it fixed at the dealerships.
