I was pulling out across two lanes of traffic on a flat city street going approximately 15 mph, and as I was holding the wheel, maintaining my drive line, the steering dropped out and I was rotating the wheel left and right desperate for the steering wheel to grab control again. It finally regained some control but the steering is not consistent, it doesnt seem like, its in constant control of the vehicle, almost like its shorting out.
As I was driving the wrench symbol came on (see manual), then ABS, traction control, engine fluid temp, no directionals, no heat or directionals, no dash lights, low tire pressure, and hill assist lights all came on and off. I was doing highway speeds. While this is a new to me car I have always had Ford including an Excursion and more recently an 07 Focus that died at 300,000. I never had any issues with them albeit they were both new. I am totally disappointed in this vehicle and it really has me thinking about never buying a Ford again.
I was driving and the steering became stiff and very difficult to turn next morning I started the vehicle and could not turn steering at all ! power steering assist fault !
A few weeks after having recealls performed for the steering and airbag issues, I was driving on the freeway and got a warning light(attached) that said "steering fault service now". the steering bacame slightly sticky but still drivable. After reacbing my destination and restarting my car, I then received the same fault light as well as traction control, and airbag lights. I have had zero issues with this vehicle as long as I've owned it prior to it being at the dealer for the recalls. The steering was now almosy inopperable and required alot of strength to make any turn left or right. While luckily the steering got very bad on side streets, this could have resulted in some serious injury or problems if it happened on the highway I feel. This vehicle is just only 4 years old and I have a hard time believing that the steering mechanism should be faulty already. I unfortunately do not have warranty on this part of the vehicle so I am now left with a $2500 bill to repair a sealed rack and pinion assembly that doesn't (to my knowledge) require any maintenace. Hopefully there are enough of this issues to warrant an investigation and possible recall. Thank you,
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that the power steering failed while driving. The power steering assist, the advance trac, and hill assist warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to bergey's Ford (700 N bethlehem pike, ambler, pa 19002) and was diagnosed that the torque sensor and the steering rack needed to be replaced. An alignment was also recommended. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 37,000.

No power steering assist, this is 3rd time this has happened. Previous repairs have been to wire connections. This time we were informed module is not communicating. Cost of repair estimated at $2,100. Shop informed me that dealer says there are over 900 modules on backorder. Obviously there is a problem. The car was being driven when this occured. Steering absolutely very difficult. Feel fortunate that didn't have to make any evasive manuvers to avoid an accident. Very unsafe.
Steering wheel is locked and no power steering. I think it's due to recalls on Ford Fusion. My car doesn't have one but I think it should. The recall is the electric power assist system. My car is only four years old I shouldn't have this problem. The car was parked when this happened but what if we were on the highway.
My vehicle would not shift into drive (Ford Fusion 2016 2L 5speed automatic). It shuddered and crawled forward but the transmission would not engage. I braked to a stop put it park and the car was still shuddering. I turned ignition off and attempted to restart engine and engage from park to drive. It did not shift to drive but shuddered. I had to repeat this process 4-5 times and then it finally moved from park to drive and drove somewhat normal 1 day prior the car was jerky as it engaged. This jerky behavior of the transmission at low speeds I was experiencing yesterday returned. The car became driveable but now a I am very supsect and I cannot find a recall for this issue that matches my VIN number. Eventhough many Ford Fusion made during the same year as mine have experienced this issue
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving at 65 mph, the steering wheel randomly shifted from left to right. The contact stated that extra effort was needed to keep the steering wheel straight. There was no warning light illuminated. Belk Ford Inc, (447 ms-6, oxford, ms 38655) was contacted and informed of the failure. The contact was informed that the vehicle was not under recall. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer and was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 77,500.
I was driving my car on the street going 45 mph and my car steering locked up and warning light came on saying steering assist fault. Then another hill assist fault light came on. I had to come to a stop on the road and turn off my car and let it sit for a few mins and restart it and everything went back to normal.
The vehicle was stationary in my garage. I was attempting to leave for work and the vehicle wouldn't start. I checked the fluids and checked battery cable and finally the vehicle started with hesitation. Warning lights 'sterring asist fault' 'low battery feature' an 'service advance trac' appeared. Could not turned the sterring wheel at all to back out of garage. Battery is 1year old should not be low.
There was electrical malfunctioning taking place and the power steering was malfunctioning and the car would just stall and like lock up everything in it and everything would be flashing on and on inside on and off
My vehicle was parked in front of my house (thank god) and when I started it, 3 alarms came on and I was not able to move the steering wheel. Had this happened while I was driving, I would most certainly been in an accident. The issue is the entire electronic steering system failed. Whole component needs to be replaced. Exactly one year to the day after the last electrical failure.
My friend aron was having an emergency when woke up at 4:00am to come to his help. After waking up with a redbull, I was then heading to the house at wich aron lives. I was unfortunately an to my surprise. Lost complete control of my 2016 Ford Fusion the steering wheel locked. As did the tires. And to my horrible experience of this car in motion then accelerated to 40 miles an hour. I was completely helpless as to redirect the car in motion to a safe path. I remember the Fusion was airborne after I was off the road hitting a ditch. The Ford flipped upside down. I sustained head injuries and back an as well. My arm was cutt up bad. Im now living with these scars for the rest of my life.
The contact owned a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving at 25 mph, when the steering column locked up, causing the contact to drive off the road, the vehicle the independently increased in speed to 40 mph, and crashed into a ditch airborne. The vehicle landed upside down. During the failure, the steering wheel was unable to be maneuvered. There were no warning lights and the air bags failed to deploy. The contact suffered injuries to the head, left arm was cut deeply and elbow, elbow joint was injured, and a cut on the face. The contact was taken to the ambulance. The vehicle was towed to an impound lot. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised that there was a recall on the steering. The vehicle was recalled for the steering column. A police report was filed. The failure mileage was 146,000.
When the steering wheel is turned all the way to either side, multiple alarm sounds go off in the vehicle including loss of power steering, loss of reverse sensors, loss of hill assist and loss of stability control. This occurs anytime the wheel is fully turned, either stationary or moving. This occurred 2 years ago in the same vehicle and they replaced the computer, after not finding any other issue. Now it is occurring again, same symptoms, same cause. A video can easily be sent if requested.
On May 28th, 2020 I took my 2016 Ford Fusion hybrid in for serving at 42,673 miles, because of my vehicles loss of power steering, steering wheel stutter and a winning sound while in motion on city street. Multiple steering notification warning lights came on, including power steering assist fault, advance trac fault, lane keeping malfunction, and pre-collision assist not available. My vehicles loss of power steering while in traffic caused the vehicle to become difficult to control. On May 29th the technicians performed diagnostic test, which they told me indicated my steering rack assembly needed to be replaced and a wheel alignment would also need to done a well. Parts were ordered and on June 4th the service work was done. My total cost was $3102.39. On June 27th, less than a month after having my car service and paying over $3,100 for the replacement of my steering rack assembly and 4 wheel alignment, plus dynastic test, the same problems reoccurred while I was driving, plus at various speeds the power steering seized, while attempting to make right and left turns while braking going down hill and all the steering malfunction notifications came on and steering again became difficult. I took my car back in for servicing again for the same problem. They kept my car for 2 days and said they hadn't reset the steering track assembly computer, which they did they now had to do line, by line, instead of just selecting the reset. Why wasn't the computer reset in the first place" instead of charging me $3100 for a brand new assembly" plus the work order after my second visit to service said they did not see the problems I mentioned. A week later the problems and alerts went off again while in motion. I will be taking my car back in. I do not feel safe driving this car any more.

I was driving down the road about approx 40 mph when my light went off saying that my traction controls were both on and in use. It was like my power steering went completely out, out of no where. I was driving straight and it also popped up that my steering and hill assist was not working. I was afraid to pull over and shut my car off and be stuck, so I drove it down the road a few miles more and turned it off in my parking lot. When I turned it back on, everything seemed fine. Also, after fueling my vehicle up, it has been rough idling for a dew and then will even out. When stopping at a light, it will also rough idle and even back out as well. I am at approx 65,000 miles, 2016 AWD Ford Fusion turbo. I am due for an inspection and oil change next week and hopefully get some answers as to what it could be. It makes me completely scared now because I am a single mother with kids. After reading several other complaints that are just like mine, this doesn't seem like an isolated incident.
