On 5 June 2024 I experienced the following Problem:
The car suddenly applied the brakes and dropped into a speed limited mode nearly causing an accident. Brake lights always on.
I Called my local Ford dealer service dept and was told to bring into Quick Lane for reset (disconnect/reconnect battery). Tech verified problem and research found SSM 50328 (Brake pedal switch bumper p/n MR3Z-7583-A).
Sent over to service dept for repairs.
I researched on my own and found Ford Recall reference #22S02 (21C24) March 2022. includes vehicles built in Hemosillo plant from Oct 2013 thru 6 April 2015. my fusion was built there on 2 April 2015 but was not included in the March 2022 recall.
SSM 50328 covers various vehicles built from 2013 to 2021 (Includes 2013-2017 Fusion/MKZ).
I was charged $232.26 to replace p/n MR3Z-7583-A (available at Ford OEM parts online for $2.11).
My local Dealer (BK FPleaseord of Waco, TX) Charged the following: $165.00 to "Verify customer's concern..." $ 82.48 to install MR3Z-7583-A $ 9.78 p/n MR3Z-7583-A $ .73 sales tax on parts $-25.73 "Service Fleet Discount
This was a known defect and should be covered under the recall but I had to pay out-of-pocket even though my vehicle was built in the Hemosillo plant within the specified recall period!
I sent a letter (11 June) to Ford Customer Relations requesting reimbursement of my out-of-pocket expense for repair of this defect. Several weeks later (30 July) I received a written reply denying my request. However, they recommend I hold on to my receipt in case Ford issues a "Customer Satisfaction Program related to my concern."
