Purchased the 2014 Ford Fusion with 63,845 miles on it. Two weeks after purchase the power steering locked up while driving (turning the vehicle) and almost caused an accident. Took it back to the car dealership where it was purchased and it needs a new steering rack. Research into this showed that Ford Fusion in earlier year models had a recall for this very safety concern and reports of many others in the more recent years continuing to have this safety issue.
Our power steering no longer works a message on the dash says power steering assist fault service required. Consumer reports says there is a recall for Ford Fusion the same year under recall number 19S26. My car is not included in this recall however it is having the same issue this issue is taking place in cold-weather states due to corrosion via salt we live in nh.

I was merging into the left lane to take a 30ft roundabout at 20-25 mph and mid circle the cars power steering cut off, pulling car to the outside median. Warning lights came on, loss of traction controls and something to do with hill parking.
Lost my power steering, while I was parked at mcdonalds, hill assist light and advance trac lights are on. I can not drive it with no power steering.the car was in part, when I put it in reverse, both lights came on and no power steering put it back in part, turn the engine off, I tried thid three or four times, finally I had power steering agian, drove 16 miles to home and it happened again. So down it just sits there, I'm not going to drive it again until it's fixed. I can't afford to fix it if it's going to cost thousands of dollars, there should be a recall, too many people having the same thing go wrong.

My power assist motor bolts broke when doing a 3 point turn causing the car loose its power steering. Researched Ford recalls for 2013-2015 Fusion and found there is a recall for this exact issue. Recall 15S14 which states the corrosion problem. My car is registered in ct and should be included but Ford say it does not apply to my VIN. The mechanics at Ford agree that this should be covered but they are unable to do anything without Ford permission. The cost is $2700. I am looking to get this covered under the recall but I am stuck. I hope someone will contact me.

Luckily I was able to steer (very difficult/steering wheel stiff) off the roadway. Visual inspection of vehicle shows no damage to mechanical components. I was driving on a city street and lost power steering rendering me unable to control my vehicle while I was turning. I was driving at 40 mph. Warning light flashed after my steering wheel became hard to turn. It was raining out which made the situation even more dangerous and I had my family in the vehicle. I believe the power steering module since it's electric was at cause. Luckily I was able to brake and pull into a less busier street.
As I was driving at approx. 50 mph on the highway, the elective power steering on the vehicle disabled. My steering wheel locked as steering assist and hill start assist lights started flashing. This could easily have caused a serious crash and was extremely dangerous. I already had a recall on the steering wheel bolts completed a few months ago.
The notification appears as power steering assist fault service required, this happens during the drive, which poses a serious risk, I think this has to be dealt with. And Ford wants to charge customers 1800$ for this
