This is the 4th battery my car has gotten since I purchased it a year and a half ago. Dealer now said that leaving key in ignition after shutting car off, even pulling key out a bit, will draw off the battery and kill it. I have had key in ignition for entire week parked in garage with no issues. Now 7 hours after parking it will kill it down to 3 volts...not buying it.

After a week of inactivity in cold weather (-10 to 10 F), my battery was dead. I had it jump-started and drove it for 40 min. Three hours later, the battery was dead again. Jump-started the car again and drove it to the dealer. The car only has 6500 miles on it. Of course, the car started right up after being left overnight at the dealership. I suspected it was the radio because I had turned the radio off when I parked it at the dealer but I normally just leave the radio on when I turn off the car. Ford was unable to find anything after looking for a parasitic battery draw for two days. (I suspect they ignored my comment about the radio because the radio was off when I started it at pickup.) Two weeks later, I get in the car and see a message on the radio display saying that a battery saving feature disabled the radio, and the battery charge was low.

Last year, my 2013 Ford Escape had an intermittent "phantom radio on" problem where maybe 1/30 times, the radio would remain on after turning off the car and opening the door. The Fusion didn't appear to have this issue until the dealer told me today that the Fusion MUTES the radio when you turn off the engine. So maybe the radio has been on and draining my battery silently. Searching the web, this looks like a common problem across all Ford vehicles. Looks to me like Ford decided to "fix" the problem by muting the radio. Now I don't know if I can trust the vehicle. I will definitely turn the radio off when I park it from now on.
