CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2013 Fusion doesn’t have the same track record of power steering failure as the previous 3 model years. Of course, those owners said their steering failed at 60k–100k miles. So this appears to be a classic "wait and see" scenario.

In the meantime, there’s plenty of interior accessory problems to complain about. By themselves, each is a barely a blip on the radar. But combined, they give you that feeling of what the hell have I gotten myself into?

Intermittently the vehicle would idle rough after filling gas tank. Also after a 30 min or so drive it would stall after exiting the freeway and then be very difficult to restart and idle very rough. It would also make a popping noise that would come from the gas tank.

My Ford Fusion was in motion when I noticed a strong smell of gasoline from the front of my vehicle. Upon inspection I noticed that my fuel levels were decreasing rapidly, my car was not going forward, and when I looked under the car; all of gas was leaking from the front of the vehicle. I see that my make and model was recalled for this specific issue (Ford's recall campaign number is 13S04) but my VIN is not listed for that recall but it seems to be the exact same issue stated in recall number 13S04.

While in motion and trying to come to a stop the ABS light came on and brakes went completely to the floor and barely stopped the car. It's now stuck that way. ABS lights always on and brakes are spongy. Also fuel pump whines loudly while car was driving and car dies while driving down the road and now won't accelerate going uphill. This has happened on many occasions and now it stuck having no power uphill or when trying to accelerate

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving at 10 to 15 mph the RPM dropped and the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to put the vehicle in park and restart the vehicle. The contact also stated that the vehicle hesitated to start after refueling. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed but was not repaired. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 16V621000 (fuel system, gasoline). The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

I was in reverse pulling out of a parking spot I was in the middle of a roadway when my car would not move anymore. The gear shift had detached from the transmission. I was lucky there was a tow truck mechanic who was able to reconnect it and move my car to safety. It has done this a couple more times since but it is now no longer driveable. In regards to the fuel the car makes a rumbling noise from the gas line, and makes the car fill with the smell of fuel. When I put the gas nozzle into the car a bubble sound and air pierces out.

Recently, I have been having issues with my electrical system/acceleration. I have a hard time getting my max A/C light to stay on and sometimes my radio display is delayed of coming on. Also, sometimes when I start my car, the dinging sounds distorted like my battery is about to die and I have a hard time starting the car. I started to think my battery was going bad but then one day I was driving down the road (in motion), my car was still running and no warning lights displayed, but I lost all acceleration. I had to limp my car to the nearest parking lot as I could not get any gas power. I turned my car off and immediately turned it back on and it worked just fine. Then a couple weeks later it did the same thing. I again had to shut it off, restart, and it worked fine. I have not had that issue since then but it is still worrisome. Luckily I was not put in danger especially since my 6 yo son was with me. I would hate to think of the outcome if this happened on the interstate or somewhere when I could not easily pull over to the side of the road. Is there a recall on this?

After driving my vehicle and I got out, I smelled gasoline. I looked under the car and all around the engine compartment and could not see any leaks. I used a flashlight and a mirror but did not remove any panels. I thought maybe it was just fumes, but the gasoline smell was just as strong after I drove the car the next time. I took it to the dealership and was told that the under body fuel lines just forward of the fuel tank were rusted through and leaking. There is a retaining clip that secures the line and that is where the line was rusted. There was never evidence of a fuel leak other than the smell, because the splash guard that goes under the fuel line was preventing the leak from making it to the ground. I could not smell the gasoline while driving, only after exiting the car.

After I fill the gas tank and park my car in the garage, I can smell gas. After the car has been driven a few miles the smell goes away. The smell is only present right after I fill the tank up until the fuel level drops down from full. This only started about 2 months ago but has been present every time the tank has been filled since then. There was a recall for this problem (13S04) so I called my local Ford dealer to try to get it fixed under the recall. The dealer told me that my VIN number is not included in the recall. I am pretty sure this is the same issue that the recall was created to fix so I think that Ford should re-look at what cars they are willing to repair. It seems to me that they easily could have overlooked some cars that had that problem.

Initial ignition of the car results in engine stall out post abnormal ignition time. Fusion will display "power run active" then "press brake to start". this will repeat after another ignition attempt and re-show the same messages on the dashboard. After a third ignition attempt the engine does not stall out. The problem is not a sudden onset but initial symptoms of the issue is that the car will stall out after 10 seconds of driving. Initial re-ignition post stall results in normal function of the car without extra issue. However, this event becomes increasingly common over time until it simply stalls out immediately post ignition. Despite multiple trips to a Ford certified professional mechanic, no codes are given by the computer which renders diagnosis of the faulty part or cause of the issue near impossible. Problem may present itself as faulty alternator, battery, or starter. However, even after replacement of any possibly faulty aforementioned parts the problem still persists.
