CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2013 Fusion doesn’t have the same track record of power steering failure as the previous 3 model years. Of course, those owners said their steering failed at 60k–100k miles. So this appears to be a classic "wait and see" scenario.

In the meantime, there’s plenty of interior accessory problems to complain about. By themselves, each is a barely a blip on the radar. But combined, they give you that feeling of what the hell have I gotten myself into?

Passenger door latch (front seat) broken without warning, unable to keep door closed when moving.. I was informed by the dealer that the latch problem on this vehicle was not included with the Fusion door latch recall that affected other 2013 Fusion. Dealer has now fixed the latch and at first was going to charge me the entire $500 cost until I called Ford directly where they agreed (Ford) to pay most of the cost but not replace other unaffected door latches. Though my out of pocket cost was only $53.50, my concern is that the previous Fusion recall did not go far enough to include other 2013 Ford Fusion that may have the same issue. I am concerned for the safety of other occupants in the vehicle.

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Fusion. While driving approximately 45 mph, the front seat passenger noticed that the front passenger door was not secure. After stopping the vehicle, it was discovered that the door would not remain shut. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer (hixson Ford, 2506 S. macarthur dr, alexandria, la) where it was diagnosed that the door latch was faulty and needed to be replaced. All four door latches were replaced per NHTSA campaign number: 17V210000(latches/locks/linkages). The contact recently discovered that the front driver's door experienced the same failure listed in the recall and after the remedy repair had been performed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failures. The failure mileage was 60,000.

Prior to the failure, the vehicle was repaired per NHTSA campaign number: 17V210000 (latches/locks/linkages). The manufacturer stated that the vehicle had already been repaired per the recall. The failure mileage was 88,321.

Takata recall: We have received three recalls, 2014 (airbag), 2015 (door latch), and 2016 (seatbelt) which were told we are on a waiting list because our light wasn't on and they would call us when parts came in. Just received notification in mail about takata recall. Ford dealer never notified us and I want these fixed immediately.

These recalls have been out since Apr 23rd, 2015 and Nov 30th 2016 and Ford still does not have parts. It seems to me that it defeats the purpose of a recall. In this case it appears that the company is simply waiting it out until the owner gets a new car and then they do not need to do anything.

Upon exiting the stationary vehicle via the front passenger door the door latch failed and the door would not latch closed at all. Had to be tied to drive to safe location. Latch had been replaced under vehicle recall in April 2017, but apparently did not fix the issue.

My vehicle had a recall just over a year ago to get all four door latches replaced due to the safety risk of it breaking and not securing the door during movement. We had the vehicle serviced in June 2016 and in September 2017 the latch failed on the front passenger door. This failure was the exact same type that was stated in the initial recall. Upon talking to a local Ford dealer they said it would be covered under a two year warranty. This was not the case and due to the fact that the recall was already serviced they would not open another claim. While talking to on of the service providers he stated that the latches were not a new model and just were replaced with the same model that was previously on it and was just a new part. If a part is recalled I'd expect a new version that exceeds the safety standards to be installed. I attempted to contact Ford customer service with no help and have since filed a claim with the better business bureau.

The vehicle was started and was no more than 10 minutes from our house when it started smoking while being driven to work. Within a minute the check engine light came on, within another minute the car lost power. The gas pedal wouldn't work, etc etc. We were able to coast into a side street and exit the vehicle. Within a minute of that happening it burst into flames and was completely engulfed and destroyed.

My 2013 Ford Fusion caught on fire while my family and I were driving on the 405 freeway. We barely got out alive and the car was completely incinerated...burnt to pieces ! ireceived a recall for engine fires after the car caught fire and nearly took our lives!!. my 8 year old disabled daughter is so traumatized from this car fire. I don't know how Ford can continue to still make these death trap cars.

Rear passenger door opened up in the middle of driving. It would not close. It seems like the latch operation is not working. There is a current recall on 2013 Ford Fusion regarding door latch but service advisor and Ford inform me that my particular car is not part of recall even though it is exact same issue as described in recall 15S16. I was lucky that my door opening automatically did not hit anyone.

Ford recall 17S09 to replace failing door latches was complied with in December 2015. A replaced door latch has failed again indicating the replacement latches are still defective. Ford has also declined to cover the broken part under warranty. The failure occurred when my wife was attempting to pick up our toddler from daycare. When she closed the door, it would not latch. The local Ford dealer inspected the latch and did agree that it had failed.

Door latches are defected. Passenger door swung open as I was driving on a major highway. This is not safe! there has already been a recall for the door latches on the 2013 & 2014 Ford Fusion. I have a 2013 Ford Fusion, however, Ford claims they cannot cover this because the recall for this part doesn't pertain to my vehicle since my vehicle was built in 2012. This is absurd! this issue could possibly lead to a major accident!

Front passenger door latch failed just over a year ago. Ford service told me all 4 door latches have been replaced under recall. Yesterday (7/25/17) driver door latch failed. Cost is $100 deductible to replace as latches are >1 yr old. This is a massive safety problem if the recalled and replaced door latches are failing. The door latches fail simply when getting in a car and closing the door. The doors will no longer remain closed. The latch is plastic and simply wiggles in the latch slot when defective. I had to use ratchet straps to keep the doors closed to drive the vehicle to the dealer 23 miles away. Plastic quickly deteriorates in the Texas summer heat, so it's just a matter of time on when these will fail regularly.

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Fusion. While operating the vehicle, the front passenger side door did not lock and remained secured. The display indicated that the door was opened and the interior dome light remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to blue springs Ford located in blue spring, Missouri where it was diagnosed that the door latch was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The contact was informed that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 17V210000(latches/locks/linkages). The contact indicated that the vehicle experienced the same failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 87,000. Updated 09/06/17

The front passenger side door won't stay closed. The internal latch is broken so the door can fly open at any time without the door handle being opened. Further, the door will close far enough to not trigger a door open sensor, so the driver wouldn't necessarily know about the problem. Calling the dealership, they didn't sound surprised at all and said this has been happening on Ford fiesta's, but they didn't have the parts for a Ford Fusion. The dealership, jordon Ford in san antonio, Texas, proceeded to ask me to hook up bungee cords to the door and drive it there. I refused and they finally sent a tow truck. I noticed this problem when the vehicle was at home in the garage, but I don't know when it initially occurred and it is highly likely it was driven with this problem. I'm sure it goes without saying that if this happened to one door, it could happen to any of the doors and cause a serious hazard if a door came open while driving. I don't know of any recalls for Ford Fusion related to this. I have a video showing that the door won't close properly, but it was difficult to capture this problem in a still photo. If you would like the video, please let me know and I would be happy to send it along.
