CarComplaints.com Notes: Power steering problems started rearing their ugly head in the 2010 Fusion, so you'd think Ford had plenty of time to make sure those problems didn't creep into the 2012. But here we are.
And much like the power steering, we’re still seeing the same throttle body failures that started in 2010 continue in 2012.

The contact owns a 2012 Ford Fusion. While the vehicle was engaged in park, the vehicle rolled away. The contact stated that the brake pedal was depressed; however, the emergency brake had to be applied to stop the vehicle. When attempting to restart the vehicle, the gear became stuck and would not move. Russell barnett Ford (4055 tullahoma hwy, winchester, tn 37398, (931) 967-2277) was contacted and stated that the gear shaft needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for diagnostic testing or repairs. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 82,000.
I have an issue with my 2012 Ford Fusion. A couple of years ago I had my steering rack replaced as a part of the manufacturers recall. Here I am a couple of years later with a Ford Fusion with a failed steering rack that needs to be replaced according to my local Ford dealership. My car now has no power steering and the warning light for the advancetrack system honks at me every time I start the car. I think this is ridiculous to have this happen in such a short period of time, and it's clear that the main issue was never remedied because it has to do with how cramped all the parts under the hood are; there's no room for air so the steering rack basically gets cooked into oblivion. So here I am at 42 years old with a medical disability and a repair that costs $1600 while my car is worth less than that...and I have no recourse as the company is not taking care of it's responsibilities. While my car has 160,000 miles on it, the steering rack was replaced and has much less wear on it so it shouldn't be dying on
The contact owns a 2012 Ford Fusion. While driving 40 mph, the contact heard an abnormal noise. When the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle did not gain speed. The contact parked the vehicle on the side of the road and then took it to cabrera auto (located at carr #2 km 82.2 salida expreso hatillo, pr-2, 00614, puerto rico, +1 787-333-8410) where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 57,000. Description in spanish.
Shift cable off transmission cable bushing. Parked at hotel, shifted to park and took foot off brake and vechile began rolling forward. Shifter was stuck in park position but car was in drive. Used E-brake to avoid rolling into next vehicle in front of me. Car will not start because it is still in drive.
The contact owns a 2012 Ford Fusion. While the vehicle was parked with the key removed from the ignition, it rolled away and crashed into another parked vehicle. There were no injuries and a police report was not filed. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing or repairs. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in a recall. The contact was referred to NHTSA. The approximate failure mileage was 141,000.
The low tire pressure light came on inside the dash as I was pulling into my driveway. So I drove about.01mile to get air. After I put air in the tire, started the car and immediately got a warning that power steering needed servicing. Then got another warning that advance track needed servicing. All happened at the same time and the power steering was completely gone out. The dealership quoted me $1809 to fix the steering rack. The service dept said the gear inside the power steering rack has gone bad and the control arms it sits on has worn out the gear therefore needing front lower control arms costing $1213.23
The contact owned a 2012 Ford Fusion. While driving in first and second gears, the vehicle violently hesitated and vibrated. The vehicle was taken to parkway Ford North (3150 university pkwy, winston-salem, nc 27105, (877) 836-4271) where it was diagnosed that the transmission failed. The contact stated that the transmission was repaired twice due to the same failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures. The failure mileage was 149,000.
There is a grinding/pooping noise from front of vehicle when turning. The recall 15S18 was reprogrammed along recall 16B38 but the noise has continued and has gotten worse. When driving slow and turning to the left and right in a parking lot it is very noticeable the dealership stated the noise was coming from the steering rack.
Was driving girlfriend to doctor and fix power steering light came on we made it to the appointment and I parked my car and turned it off... on returning to my car to leave I tried to pull out parking spot but steering wheel is very hard to turn and is unsafe to drive...
Was accelerating in my vehicle when the car hesitated and then just shut off in the middle of the road showing only an orange wrench light on the dash. Thankfully I was driving in town and actually to the dealership to get my airbag recall fixed when this happened and nobody other than my boyfriend was behind me. I turned the key into the off position and turned it back on and the dash (wrench) light indicator went off. I could have seriously injured myself or another vehicle due to what seems to be be a system failure! I refused to take my car home from the dealership until they checked into it. They acted as if it was no big deal because the (wrench) light on the dash went off but I'm very concerned it's a safety issue and bad accidents can be a result of this.
While driving the vehicle has issues while transmission is upshifting. Have had vehicle serviced for complaint at Ford yet continues to be an issue even after repair was made
The contact owns a 2012 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that that the vehicle started, but the steering wheel was unable to move. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the contact was informed that a new rack and pinion or steering column was needed or the computer would need to be reprogrammed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 138,000. Consumer stated vehicle was repaired by having new steering column installed. I recently noticed the mark on my driveway was getting bigger. Something under the engine is leaking. Brought car in for leak, after 1/2 hour, they told me I had to replace the ptu. Of course, the warranty has expired. The cost will be around $2300. I need my car so told them to fix it of course. I am on a limited budget, thank goodness for charge cards!
My transmission has been jolting whenever it shifts into gear 3, especially when going up hills. My vehicle has been well taken care of and not been involved any any previous accidents. The problem started when it had about 80,000 miles on it, and now it has 110,000 miles and the problem is worse. I have looked at other online forums and can confirm that I am not the only one with this problem.
Car jerks and shifts poorly and sometimes at the wrong time when starting up from a stop. Also downshifted from 6th grear to much lower gear when on the highway at highway speed in hot weather (over 100 degrees F), causing frightening loss of speed and accelerating motor rpms.
Front left transmission seal leaking, axle shaft loose and damaged, wheel increasingly wobbly with speed. Directly and negatively affects brake rotors and pads as well as wheel knuckle stability and shock absorber wear. Car is dangerous to drive as steering control has decreased dramatically. The rubber seal around the transaxle on the left (driver side) front wheel axle has been sliced open from the inside by metal shavings produced by the bad production of the parts included in the axle shaft assembly, causing abnormal wear/shaving of the shaft. The joint has been completely damaged and is now in turn causing damage to the upper and lower ball joints, shock absorber, wheel knuckle, steering arm, brake rotors, break pads, the wheel hub, wheel bearing, tire etc. It literally efects the entire driver side front suspension, drivetrain, and steering components, continuously degrading their state with time and making them more dangerous to use/more dangerous to drive the car. No history of any damage has been recorded on this vehicle on that side and this has been a factory defect from the beginning, just poorly and very slowly addressed. Because if Ford's untimely response to this issue, most owners are forced to deal with the issues in vehicles effected by this Ford factory defect out of their own pocket, which is unfair.
Lunging, not going into gear, shuttering, not able to control speed on any type of highway. Can't drive it safely to get it to the Ford service dept. Car is in charlotte, nc. Contacted capital Ford on N tryon St and huntersville Ford on statesville rd. Both dealers look at it for 4 or 5 days and we have to bring it to them. It's not safe to drive.
The contact owns a 2012 Ford Fusion. While reversing out of the driveway, the vehicle failed to accelerate when the accelerator pedal was depressed. Also, the power train warning indicator illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle was turned off and restarted but, when the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle failed to accelerate above 5 mph. The vehicle was parked in the contact's driveway. The dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle had not been repaired. The VIN and failure mileage were unknown.
